Nokia 5800 XpressMusic Cloned?

By Meraj Chhaya | Nov 13, 2008

The guys at CNMobiBar have taken exclusive pictures of the 5800 clone. If believe that this mobile was produced in China, you are totally right.

Once again China is in the front line and even before the release of Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, they made their own 5800. In my opinion the clone looks ugly with front buttons (green and red), the design is totally different and it does not run Symbian S60.

Li 5800 (the phone’s name) has a 3 inch touchscreen display with a resolution of only 240 x 400 while the resolution of the real 5800’s screen is of 360 x 640 pixels), it has Bluetooth, and runs MP3, MP4 and Video 3GP.

Spain to get the 5800 on the 1st of December

By Meraj Chhaya | Nov 12, 2008

Spanish consumers will be the first to get the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, on the 1st of December, a day before Nokia World opens in Barcelona, according to NokNok.

The 5800 is rumoured to sell at 279€ only, which doesn’t make sense, as that was the price announced without subsidies or taxes.

Nokia World will run on the 2nd and 3rd of December. Other countries should also get the 5800 for Christmas, but for those who don’t, it should be there January the latest.

Eight 5800s stacked on top of each other

By Meraj Chhaya | Nov 12, 2008

You’ll never these many together before they go commercial! From my Nokia 5800 XpressMusic review at PhoneReport.

I didn’t have the phone with me for more than a half an hour, so I was only able to cover features such as superficial apps and such. Hardware isn’t very difficult to cover as I only to interpret what I felt, but I am waiting for the review unit so that I can share full insight into what the 5800 can really do.

Mikko Röntynen, Head of S60 Customer Spearhead Projects, Mobile Software Sales and Marketing, Nokia, was very kind in letting us photograph the phone and explaining some of the upgrades. You can check the video where he explains the use of adaptive search in contacts here.

By Meraj Chhaya | Oct 21, 2008

I met Mikko Rontynen today at the Symbian Smartphones Show in London. I gathered quite a lot of content for PhoneReport, but managed to get this clever explanation of what adaptive search really is. I wasn’t aware of its use, so do take a look, might be a good reason to actually buy the 5800:

Nokia aims to regain market share with Nokia 5800

By Meraj Chhaya | Oct 16, 2008

Nokia results came today below than expected wich lead to more losses in Nokia shares, from Helsínquia  Nokia closed the day losing -4.156% touching in the day a low of 10.20 euros.

As we can see in the left side, Nokia shares are losing more than the rest of the sector. This are just evidences of what could come in the results.

Today, Nokia announced that third-quarter profit fell 30 percent, being a possible cause of that the competition from BlackBerry and Samsung models. Also the Global Crisis affected Nokia as a company, because the mobile phone production may diminish as “buying power” is being lost all over the world.

Nokia profits in this quarter was 1,09 billion euros compared with 1,56 billions in the laste year for the same period. Analists were expecting a profit over 1,12 billion euros. In my humble opinion, this profits were normal as we won’t see the consequences of this crisis right now, but maninly from Chiristmas we will see who is winning the market and if the consumers will remain buying Nokia mobile phones.

What about Nokia 5800?

Nokia has trailed Apple and Samsung in bringing devices with touch-screens to the market. The company’s first such phone, the 5800 ExpressMusic, will ship this quarter in some markets.

Apple sold 1 million units of its new iPhone 3G in its first three days of release in July. Nokia has said it plans to bring touch-screen models to all price ranges. Nokia’s 5800 handset will retail for about 30 percent less than Apple’s iPhone, according to Citigroup.

No 5800 for Christmas?

By Meraj Chhaya | Oct 3, 2008

Reuters has said that the 5800 will miss the Christmas season, which is usually the best for both consumers and suppliers. Countries others than India, Indonesia, the United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Russia and Spain will only see the phone next year.

Nokia is quite late on touchscreen phones, there are only two of them in the market from the manufacturer, and the delay in shipping means that the company will lose market share, but most importantly, our readers might just go for another device.

Not all is bad news, here’s a video of the live Remix event in London, courtesy of mocoNews:
