Nokia 5800 App Review: Nokia Step Counter

2480800806_e5ba2e7d9d_o2There are a lot of nice and useful applications that you can get from Nokia Beta labs, one of them is the Nokia Step counter. Like any other step counter, it's based on body movements and vibrations.

This application is free (we all know everyone likes free stuff) and it’s still in beta, hence being in Nokia Beta Labs. It can be set up to turn on automatically when the phone starts so you don’t have to worry about starting it. It uses your phone’s accelerometer technology to sense your body movement.

The interface is pretty easy to understand. You can create user profile under settings. Diary shows you the date that you used your step counter and progress will show you the summary per week.            2479987773_8637633248_o1

Some test that I did was walking lightly with the phone in my hand and I was not getting any step count. Also when I shook the phone itself it started counting steps, which in turn tells us that if you run the application and you’re not walking, it could continuously counting steps. There are some people who subconsciously tap their foot while sitting down and could lead to vibrations on your legs that could activate the step counter.
It’s better to use it on normal walks and make sure to close the app if not in use.

To summarize, the Nokia Step counter is a good freeware tool that can get close to a regular step counter that you can buy for $10. We can use it as a basis or average step counter and calories burned. So give it a spin, it wouldn’t hurt to try it’s very easy to use. Download Nokia Step Counter here.

Protect your 5800 from Scratches with Invisible Shield

Here at Nokia5800.net we receive daily e-mails of people asking how to protect the Nokia 5800 from scratches. Many of them have already broken their phones, and they don't know how to protect a touchscreen mobile phone. It is almost impossible to protect your Nokia 5800 from a single sratch or dent, even if you take your phone very carefully or something like that. 5800 is worth more that 250 euros which is an expensive device to let it get dented. Having this in consideration we always reply to those mails recommending them to buy at Zagg.com.

screen_coverFull Body

Zagg is famous for their "Invisible Shield" product, which is made for many cell phones particularlly to fit well on them. Well, Invisible Shield was made to protect your phone from every single scratch or dent, it is not a single cover that you buy on a Chinese Store, it is a lot more that that, it is an invisible shield indeed, that can covers only your screen or even all the 5800 phone, that's why it is made as ONLY "Screen Protector" or even "Full Body Cover". Those are available at Zagg.

I know what you are thinking, it would be impossible to use the touchscreen function from your Nokia 5800 Xpress Music whith a "Screen Cover" over it, but with Invisible Shield you don't have to worry about this, besides covering your touchscreen invisibly it will let you continue using the same functions of your cell phone, touchscreen with or without pen.

I bought a full body protector and until now no scratch! Below check a testemonial from one of our network websites:

I purchased the invisible shield a little doubtful but installed it any way.  A day later I dropped my phone in the concrete and to my surprise nothing was  wrong with it, not even a scratch. I have no problems using any of the buttons and the touch screen works the same as it did he first day I bought it. I highly recommend it this product.

Invisible Shield releases discounts daily, so for today we have ”techound1” as a discount code (thank you Ody). Keep checking back this post because we will updating the codes too. Get it here.

Download Games: Motion Dice Box – Shake it!

Motion Dice BoxThis is a simple post to let you know a game to test easily the accelerometer capabilities of your Nokia 5800. Motion Dice let you play many traditional dice games, just shaking your phone.

Just select the type of game, multi player or not and start shaking your Nokia 5800 to get the dices rolling, you will hear the dices rolling and you will also feel a vibration when you shake them. When somebody ask me to show the Nokia 5800 capabilities I begin with this game, pass through many applications, I also play with them Marble Maze and they end buying the "magic gadget" !

Motion Dice Box is available on the web and you can download Motion Dice Box here, from your PC or from your 5800 browser.

Games: Marble Maze for Nokia 5800

Marble MazeMarble Maze is an addicting game with labyrinths on which you need to control the ball, not allowing it to touch the black points and driving it to goal. I think one way or another we have all played a kind of game like this, I remember to play with a "real" box (wasn't a virtual game)  and I needed to handle the box in a way so that I could get the ball into a certain point.

What was a game that helped me passing the boring times is now a virtual game and can be played as before, nothing changes. I mean...if something has changed is for better, because now you are able to play Marble Maze whenever you want from your Nokia 5800 Xpress Music.

"Marble Maze", from Cahoona Games, is a 5800 and N97 game that uses the orientation sensor built inside these Nokia phones. Like the real game, you just need to drive the ball into the goal flags with your own hands. That's simple, your 5800 is now the box and you simply use your hands to manipulate the ball.

I have played a game when I was in the Symbian SmartPhone Show on which I used the Nokia N97 (I am not sure if it was the N97...) to drive a remote control car - All I needed to do was handling the phone to left, right, up and down to make the car move. I can tell you it was difficult, but a new experience, and it was like a remote control indeed, because I haven't used any cables. Let's see what I will find in the MWC in Barcelona next week - yah, we will be there.

Nokia 5800 – US release date

One of the most important countries and where Nokia 5800 will have a big battle trying to gain some market share against Apple phones and Sony Ericsson is the United States of America. So, it becomes so much important to announce the 5800 release date like we did before when we announced the first countries to have the 5800.

Nokia 5800 Xpress Music will go on sale through the retailers by 26 of February, being the suggested price of 399$. The price might be this one as there is not one carrier subsidy, so the chances of getting the 5800 cheaper are little. Anyway I was hoping a price of 350$, more 49$ I call expensive.

The unlocked Nokia 5800 US 3G version will be available at retailers and online sites like amazon.com, mobilecityonline.com, buy.com, newegg.com, tigerdirect.com, and then retailers like Nokia Flagship in NYC and Chicago, J&R Music in NYC, Just Mobile @ RCS Experience in NYC, Best Buy Mobile, many independent owned wireless phone dealers across the US, but not any carrier stores, have that in mind.

If you want to buy the 5800 Xpress music now, I advice you to make it from Ebay, because there you can find it at cheaper prices.(from 300$).

As you know Nokia 5800 will come with music for the USA, on which the tracks you download won't expire in one year, being the big advantage of the "Comes in Music" campaign.

Will you be in the release of Nokia 5800 in the USA? Will you buy it now?
