Nokia 5800 App Review: World Snooker Championship 09 – 3D

99005I recently tried the “World Snooker Championship 09 3D” mobile game for Nokia 5800. It is a latest game developed by I-Play. It is a mobile snooker game. The game download is provided by Mobicreed.com. The graphics is quite impressive and runs smoothly on the Nokia 5800 hardware. I had around 40 MB of free RAM when I played it.

The game has good touch response and use of stylus is highly recommended. It is a full screen game. It is a multi-player game that you can play even with the computer. The hints and tip-offs provided during the play help you a lot during your first play. After a while, you get an idea about using the cue and rotating the ball and adjust the force with which the cue hits the ball.

The 3D is good so far I have seen by any non-nokia vendors. It may not beat the graphics capabilities of the inbuilt games but it sure is

impressive. It does look good in terms of some serious game development efforts.

It is a full version game and available for download with Mobicreed.com.

Download the game

Nokia 5800 App Review: Snake Deluxe v2.0

scr000031Snake Deluxe as the name suggests is a game with a similar concept to Nokia’s age old Snake game. You have to guide the snake to eat a fruit and as it eats the fruit, its size increases and thus making the guidance difficult and challenging. I do agree that its an addictive game and has a great time killing capacity.

The graphics is very accurate and seriously designed giving you the feel of a premium game. It is a full screen game with a lot of levels and modes (Easy, Hard and Adventure). In each of these modes the landscape within which the snake has to crawl changes with different hurdles.

One of the best features of Snake Deluxe 2 is the usability feature of its interface. If you need to close the game or pause it or abandon a game and restart another, then it has controls are placed at very convenient positions. Also, it has useful help tips for each stage which you have the option to disable if you don’t want them to appear.

Nokia 5800 Game Review: LuckyCoins by SBSH

logo_largeLucky Coins is a latest puzzle game by SBSH. SBSH is a software company that develops games for a number of different platforms and corresponding mobile phones such as S60.

The game strategy in Lucky Coins is that you need to align common symbols in a set of three in a vertical and a horizontal position. There are a number of other games following the same strategy but the only difference that they are either J2ME based or not compatible with Nokia 5800.

The installation file size of the game is pretty huge (5.44 MB). The game has 25 different levels but you cannot jump to a level, you need to clear scr000025level by level. The graphics are just fine. I didn’t find it very impressive and a bit slow. The slowness is not because of the hardware dependencies rather the game has been designed that way. However, it does not steal the fun away. It’s still a very challenging and a time killing game.

You can switch between two different display modes i.e. Portrait and Landscape. I somehow had a feel that the game has been simply modified to support Nokia 5800 and really does not use the graphics capabilities of Nokia 5800.

There are still a lot of options to improvise on the user interface. Other than that, I had fun playing the game on my Nokia 5800.

Give it a try; the game is still available in the Beta phase and available for trial download. The trial is a 12 day limited edition and has full functionality with in that period. If you wish to buy, its available for 7.95$ at Handango.

Nokia 5800 App Review: Mail For Exchange with free exchange e-mail

scr000023Nokia 5800 XM comes with a free Mail for Exchange application. This application is not of much use for people who don’t have an exchange based email account.

Before, we proceed further, let’s examine the benefits of having an exchange based account and its usage with Mail For Exchange. Consider a situation where you take a picture and wish to send it right away to a friend. What options do you have? Either you upload the picture on Vox or Nokia M-Blog and then notify your friend. Well, I personally would like an option where I take a picture, select send and select the option to email the picture. Well, of course, a better option is to use MMS but for some networks MMS is highly charged even with an unlimited data plan. This is so because MMS uses a different gateway than your normal data connection. If you have Mail For Exchange installed on your Nokia 5800, you will notice an option “Via Mail For Exchange” when you click on Send after taking a picture. If you select this option, instantly an email would be created with the picture as an attachment and just send the email.

Another benefit of using Mail For Exchange is that there is no size limitation on the attachment or scr000024its type. In some countries there is a size limit on the size of MMS that you send, which is less than 1MB. So if you want to send a number of pictures together, then you may have to send in multiple MMSes. Or the better option is to use the Zip Manager on your phone and zip it to a single file and send it as an email which would use the normal internet connectivity and would not have any size limitations. You can also browse through your phone or card memory and select any file type you wish and send it via Mail For Exchange.

Now we come to the main question, where do we get a free exchange based email account to use with Mail For Exchange. Mail2Web .com is an email provider which provides a free Microsoft Exchange 2007 based email account on a trial basis for 2 months. After the trial period they charge a very low charge of 4.95$/month that’s almost 60$ around the year. Previously, the site was providing a completely free Microsoft Exchange 2003 based account with mobile sync but then they upgraded to Exchange 2007 and put up a monthly fee.

Some of the features that come with the trial account are, Outlook Web Access client, Plenty of Storage with support for large attachments, Anti-Virus and SPAM Filtering, Messaging, Calendar, Contacts, Tasks, Mobile Device Synchronization with ActiveSync, Import your existing Contacts, Manage Other Email Accounts and change your From Address, POP3, IMAP and SMTP Support (activated after your trial period).

Nokia 5800 App Review – Yamigo: A Free Instant Messaging and Presence Service

scr0000151Looking for an IM client for your Nokia 5800? Well, I haven’t found a single Symbian 5th Edition IM client that’s free. Yes, there are free J2ME clients available but they are really difficult to use on the Nokia 5800 Touch UI. But don’t worry, I have something you are going to love, just not because it’s free, also because it does not require any external client to be installed on the device. Please read further to know more.

In most of the Nokia mobiles including Nokia 5800, there is an inbuilt IM client that we never tend to use. This is mainly either because most of us think it is an operator based service or we don’t know about it.

We spend a lot of money buying IM applications to connect to the popular IM services on the move. Now, I can tell you a way through which you can get the internal IM client working within minutes and without any charges except for the data connectivity usage charges.

Nokia 5800 Game Review – Resco Bubbles

bubbles_scr_01Resco Bubbles is a free game for Nokia 5800 and Nokia N97. It is a motion sensor based puzzle game. The idea of this game is to burst a series of bubbles in a sequence so as to move to the next level. The motion control of this game is really good on Nokia 5800. I have tried it on my phone and really enjoyed playing it. It is really addictive in the sense that you need to burst the bubbles in the minimum possible time to be the top scorer. There is a timer that assists you in the task.

bubbles_scr_06The unregistered version of the game is free but only offers 5 levels of play but even that is really sufficient for killing time waiting at an airport or a queue or at a bus stop. However, if you wish to register, this game offers you 60 different levels and comes for 14,65$. If you really enjoy playing puzzle games, I would definitely suggest you this game. Even if you don’t wish to buy this game, you can enjoy the available 5 levels of this game for life as there are no trial period limits.

bubbles_scr_02With respect to Nokia 5800, this game really looks high end in terms of user interface and graphics. It works great with out any hitches and has great control in terms of the motion sensor control.

Visit here to download Resco Bubbles. An important fact to remember is that the website no where says “Symbian S60 5th Edition” or Nokia 5800. However, the application is updated and optimized for Nokia S60 5th Edition Devices. Just select SYMBIAN S60 from the “Compatibility” drop down and click on DOWNLOAD button.

Kindly comment on the content of the post if you liked the game. It has been personally tested by me. Download Resco Bubbles Here
