20% discount code on the Invisible Shield for Nokia 5800

Nokia 5800 Xpress Music Full Body shieldWe have before reviewed this product on our website and Invisible Shield became the most known shell for Nokia 5800 Xpress Music around the web, maybe because it is resistant and invisible, maybe because it's cheap. So, are you looking for a way to prevent scratches on your 5800? Got to the right place!

An excellent product for keeping the XpressMusic scratch free is the Invisible Shield.  It does a great job of providing a strong protective covering - but doesn't cover up the design of the phone and allows you to use the touchscreen as normal.  It's a surprisingly tough material that was originally developed to protect helicopter blades - so it does an outstanding job of preventing things like scratches and scuffs.  It also comes with a money back guarantee - in case you decide to return it.

This time we bring you a way to get a discount more easly and to get the Invisible Shield cheaper.:One of the biggest distributors of the invisible Shield is InvisibleSkinz.com and they contacted us giving a 20% discount for this product  only to Nokia5800.net visitors and readers - 20% off for the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic: nokxp410

Nokia launched Java Runtime 2.0 for Symbian S60

Nokia - Java Runtime 2.0 for S60Nokia Beta Labs launched today, a few hours ago, the Nokia Java Runtime 2.0 for Symbian S60 devices, having been tested only on the Nokia 5800 Xpress Music, versions 20.x.xxx and 21.x.xxx and also on the two known versions of the Nokia N97, 10.x.xxx and 11.x.xxx. It is not yet known if it will exist one for Symbian S60 3rd edition, but the odds are good.

We have not yet tried this new Java mobile execution environment, but according to the Beta Labs it gives nice improvements in terms of usuability and performance, and it includes:

  • One-click application installation
  • Improved application launch user experience
  • Improved execution performance

This way it will be faster to download and install an application from any website or from the Ovi Store and to get the applications running smoother.

According to Nokia Beta Labs:

(...)we have made major changes under the hood. From now on, Java Runtime will be developed and released independent from S60 releases. This means that you will always get the latest version directly to your phone, using the built-in Nokia S60 Software Update functionality.

You can download the Java Runtime 2.0 for Symbian S60 here.

5800 to get Firmware Update Soon?

nokia-5800-xpressmusicBlogosphere is effervescent with rumours of 5800 getting a firmware update to v31.0.0.15. While there has been no official news or comments from Nokia on this topic, bloggers across the globe have been speculating v31.0.0.15 from the video of  Ovi suite 2.0, posted over at Nokia Conversations. (Check the video after the break)

It all started with Vikas from Fone Arena who was quick to spot the v31.0.0.15 firmware being shown during the video at 0:57 minutes. However the screenshot also shows the present version of firmware as v15.0.0.15, which never made it to the NSU public servers or FOTA. So whether v31.0.015 will ever make it our 5800s is something only time can tell. So please do  take this news or should I say rumour with a pinch of salt!

Nokia 5800 Game Review: Spb Puzzle v1.00(0)

Welcome screen

Welcome screen

Remember those jigsaw puzzles and hours of engrossing game play, putting the pieces together? Jigsaw puzzles were one of my favorite puzzles during those lazy afternoons of summer vacation. Well, now you dont have to head to the nearest store to get your hands on a jigsaw puzzle. Your 5800 is all you need to enjoy this game in your spare time. Spb Puzzle by Spb Software is an excellent game, bringing jigsaw puzzles to our beloved 5800s.

Installation

Spb Puzzle is a paid game costing US $ 9.95 and can be either be downloaded from ovi store or from the official website of Spb Softwares. The setup file, at 7.1 MB is one of the biggest set up files I have seen so far for any application/game on s60 5th edition device. Download from the official website is surprisingly fast, making me double check if the file is really 7 MB large. Spb Software seems to have reserved sufficient bandwidth for game downloads and rightly so, I still remember the sorry state of Ovi client when it was first launched this May. I already have a good feeling about this game! I hope more application/game developers learn from this and reserve sufficient bandwidth for their download pages.

Nokia 5800 App Review: JoikuSpot Premium v2.5(823)

Settings Screen

Settings Screen

Are you on unlimited data plan for your 5800? If yes, then this is probably the best application to exploit the most from your data plan. Finland based company, JoikuSoft recently update their most popular application, JoikuSpot to v2.5 and as usual we decided to test drive it on our 5800.

What does JoikuSpot do? This is one of the most innovative solutions, the kind of which I haven't seen on other mobile platforms yet. JoikuSpot uses your 3G/HSPA to convert your 5800 to a full fledged wireless router. This means you can now connect n umber of Wi-Fi enabled devices on your very own Wi-Fi hotspot which is as mobile as you! This is the perfect application to tease the iPhone/iTouch users with, making them rely on our symbian devices for their Wi-Fi needs.

This application is such a relief for it saves me from relying on a separate data plan for my laptop and the prerequisite for mobile data plans, 3G dongle. True, that I could have always relied on  the supplied data cable to use my 5800 as a modem but this is a major problem when I am working on Linux/Mac for there are no modem drivers for these OS  yet (atleast not easy to find them). Further, I can now connect more than one devices to my very own Wi-Fi hot spot wherever I go. JoikuSpot does seem like a perfect solution for my mobile data needs.

Nimbuzz Update for 5800

Nimbuzz update notification on signing in

Nimbuzz update notification on signing in

Nimbuzz, which we rated as one of the best third party applications for 5800, when it was released in May 2009, just got better. Developers at Nimbuzz are not satisfied with just keeping us happy and may be they plan to blow or mind or something with their latest update to v2.0 (2).

In a little less than 2 months, I think this is Nimbuzz's second update, going by their numbering scheme. I don't remember seeing v2.0 (1) for update but I may be wrong and v2.0(1) may have existed and as such am considering v2.0(2) to be the second update. Please update us if it is otherwise for we love to get some feedback from our readers.

How to Update?

History of sent items

History of sent items

Very Simple, just login to your Nimbuzz client from your 5800s and message popups as shown in the screenshot above, informing the users of the new update available for the client. Once you click on yes, you will be directed to the download link in the default symbian browser. The installation file (.sisx) is 1.02 MB and is a bit smaller than the sisx file for the v2.00 client which was 1.3 MB. So the developers have managed to squeeze in the same/better features in a smaller package!

While I didn't spot any major changes in the update, I did come across a few screen for Nimbuzz inbox and history of sent items. There is even a new section in the Nimbuzz account tab, where we can now check for messages as well as the history of sent items. I would again urge the readers to update us on other new features that they come across in the latest version of Nimbuzz.

Fans shooting Noissetes' artist Shingai Shoniwa

NOISEttes, the UK based indie rock band, who have been promoting Nokia 5800 ever since  its launch in UK have finally kept to their word of shooting an entire video solely on Nokia 5800.

The band has been a fan of sorts of our Nokia 5800s for quiet sometime now. First they performed a secret gig in UK for the Nokia 5800 Comes With Music Launch by Orange in UK.

The band consisting of singer and bassist Shingai Shoniwa, guitarist Dan Smith, and drummer Jamie Morrison, got their first taste of success with their second single "Don't Upset the Rhythm", which went on to reach the number 2 position in UK Singles chart in Spring 2009. Following up on their recent success, NOISEttes have tied up with Nokia in what may be the trend of the future for promotion of music, to promote their latest single on Nokia's flagship Music Xpress device, Nokia 5800.

In a bid to impress theier fans, NOISEttes gathered in Haggerston Pools building in Hackney, East London and let fans shoot the video with their Nokia 5800s. Check the gallery below for some shots captured from the event. You can also check out the single on NOISEttes myspace page. The single which was being shot using 5800s is called, "Saturday Night" and will be available to music enthusiasts in a month or so. Till then check the gallery below for some shots captured from the event and yeah we are also eagerly waiting to see how good our 5800 camera performed in capturing an official music video.

Nokia 5800 App Review: LoudSpeaker v1.0.0

LoudSpeaker-Handsfree features without a handsfree!

LoudSpeaker-Handsfree features without a handsfree!

Ever felt the need for a handsfree for your 5800? Especially during those wee hours in the office when you are typing furiously on your keyboard and just then your boss happens to call you to remind you a few things he wants done; you can't afford to neglect the call so you have to give up your typing, to answer the call. Now there is LoudSpeaker v1.0.0 which will just let you enjoy the comfort of a handsfree sans the hardware and the annoying discomfort of something stuck in your ear. Besides I have read several times over that continuous earphone/headphone usage is no good for our ears. Thanks to symbian guru now you can enjoy the features of full fledged hands free just by running their application, LoudSpeaker in the background. Be it while driving or that busy hour in office, you won't need a handsfree to answer a call, with this application. Well there must be a catch right? Yeah, there is one, this is one of the paid applications and you would have to shell US $ 9.99 (buy here) to enjoy the feature set of this application. Is it worth 10 bucks? Well, lets find out that.

Nokia 5800 Continues to Rule the Market

Nokia 5800

Nokia 5800

The last few weeks have seen many a handset being released from several manufacturers including Nokia; most of them targeting the touch-screen smarthphone segment. While our very own Nokia 5800 has been in this segment for quiet a while now (launched in October 2008), it still continues to be the market leader in this segment outperforming some of its pricier rivals of the competition.

Our friends at My Nokia Blog have reported that Nokia 5800 is the leading pay-monthly phone, going  by the statistics of Carphone Warehouse, Europe's largest independent handset retailer; with more than 1700 stores spread across Europe. What's fascinating is the fact that Nokia 5800 beats Apple's iPhone, the darling of masses. (Check the gallery below for the whole list)

Nokia 5800 Widget Review: Blogger

Blogger Widget: Homescreen

Blogger Widget: Homescreen

I have been waiting since long for a proper blogger client to let me blog directly from my 5800. The wait has been rather long, with Google overlooking symbian platform in favour of iPhone and its very own Android platform. Thanks to phoneytunes.com, now I don't have to wait for Google to come up with a blogger client for my 5800.Blogger widget is not a full fledged blogger client but it does provide basic blogger services like new post, edit post and view post.

Installation

Blogger widget can be downloaded from ovi store client or the ovi webstore. For some reason, this widget is yet to appear on the ovi webstore but it was very much available on ovi client, from where I downloaded it to my 5800 and before I forget, yeah its free!

Its a 420 kb set up file, that will take around 5-10 s to download over wi-fi and the preceeding installation is quick, without any settings to be chosen whatsoever, during the course of installation. You should be able  to fire up the application and start blogging in around a min (including download and installation).
