Blogosphere is effervescent with rumours of 5800 getting a firmware update to v31.0.0.15. While there has been no official news or comments from Nokia on this topic, bloggers across the globe have been speculating v31.0.0.15 from the video of Ovi suite 2.0, posted over at Nokia Conversations. It all started with Vikas from Fone Arena who was quick to spot the v31.0.0.15 firmware being shown during the video at 0:57 minutes. However the screenshot also shows the present version of firmware as v15.0.0.15, which never made it to the NSU public servers or FOTA. So whether v31.0.015 will ever make it our 5800s is something only time can tell. So please do take this news or should I say rumour with a pinch of salt!
However I sincerely hope there is some truth behind this rumour, for its been really long since the last firmware update v21.0.0.25, which first surfaced in the last week of April 09. Thats like eons ago, when compared to the present world of mobile technologies. With engineers at Nokia concentrating on their flagship device, N97 which is believed to be getting a firmware update this July 1st, I just hope Nokia doesn't neglect 5800 users, the first adopters of s60 5th edition devices.
Some of the features that I would like to see in the next firmware upgrade are:
- Kinetic Scrolling (If Gravity can do it, so can Nokia!!)
- 5530 like contact screen with support for 20 or more contacts
- Faster and more responsive touchscreen performance

I hope Nokia crashes and burns with their crappy N97 and starts to focus all it’s powers to the European Top Seller, our beloved 5800!!!!!
Well I’d very much like to see the widgets-on-the-desktop feature of N97. Really I just want to be greeted by the accuweather when I look at my phone.
I really hope Nokia will pay serious attention to the horrible randomly changing and scrambling of the screen color , occured after updating with V20.0.12. This problem affects lot of users, but Nokia is trying to hide this problem. If no improvement for me no Nokia anymore.

Since its been a month since i own this phone i find a few issues to be resolved at the earliest. First of all the tabbed browsing needs to be supported in such a way that the user must be able to open a new tab. Secondly, the browser only supports youtube. It would be better if its supports all the videos sites like google videos, yahoo videos, etc,.

seriously, Nokia should start taking its 5800 users more seriously. Hardly weeks after its release, the N97 has already got its first update!
Nokia needs to add more substantial features like: N-Gage support, Kinetic Scrolling, and a much more user friendly touch interface. And of course something should badly be done about its web browser!!!!
I really want nokia to introduce kinetic scrolling and remove double tap. Mass storage mode needs vast amounts of stability improvements. The browser needs tabbed browsing and cut copy and paste(its an ancient feature). Also there should be massive improvementss in stability of the operating system. The menu section should be improved to make it more like the lg arena or the iphone. The applications should run in full screen mode without displaying the big options and exit buttons when in landscape modes. There should be a widgets screen like the samsung ultra touch or N97. The phone should me made compatible for left handed people like the screen should rotate while turning on both the sides with a transition animation. The phone can have a brighter theme also and a multitasking interface like the palm pre. It should also have a contacts section interface like the palm pre.
Would love to see a home screen with easy access to favourite contacts. Also, touch access to the main menu, rather than having to click the central physical button.

Some would like to see 5800 firmware improvements in a way,some would like it in another…It’s better this,it’s better that…Frankly,all the “add-ons” Tushar is asking for [it's just an example], are pious illusions.
Let’s just hope Nokia will improve what really needs to be improved,and add some nice features;this will be a start and surely a satisfying one.I heard that screenshots around the web about new firmware update are not from 5800 but from n78 instead…
