Nokia 5800 Cellet Neoprene Armband

Cellet Neoprene Armband is a nice accessory for Nokia 5800. It allows you to carry your Nokia 5800 with you strapped to your arm. It does not matter if you are working out, walking, running or trekking, you can carry your Nokia 5800 strapped to your arm safe and secured with Cellet Neoprene Armband. I took some pictures and made a video of the Neopreme Armband I've just bought from ebay.

CELLET NEOPRENE ARMBAND CASE

While working out you can use your Nokia 5800 as a music device strapped to your arm or even as phone with a headset attached to it. The Cellet Neoprene Armband wraps around your arm and has a pouch correctly sized to hold your Nokia 5800 tightly. The phone cannot be taken out without unwrapping the armband. I see this as a positive aspect of the armband while some may view it as a negative one because you cannot take out the phone.

Comparison Guide: Nokia 5800 vs BlackBerry Storm 9250

Blackberry Storm 9250BlackBerry Storm (BB9250) got released an year after Nokia 5800. Black Berry saw all the flaws that Nokia 5800 has and tried to improve them in BB9250. One of the important was the implementation of Capacitive Screen in BB9250. Nokia 5800 even today comes with a Resistive screen which has a inferior touch response when compared with the Capacitive screen. However, BB9250 could not match the resolution of 16M colors in Nokia 5800's display. BB9250 has a screen resolution of 65K colors.

Blackberry Storm 9250

Memory-wise BlackBerry Storm 9250 wins over Nokia 5800 with a massive 2GB internal memory. BB9250 lacks a secondary camera for video calls which is must for any 3G phone. I am happy that Nokia kept this in mind while designing Nokia 5800.

Nokia 5800 Tips & Tricks: View all the documents online on your mobile without a mobile viewer

Still, we don't have a free viewer for PDF files on Nokia 5800. Portable Document File (PDF) is one of most widely used document formats. We have a few applications that allow you to view the office documents on Nokia 5800. However, we still do not have a pdf viewer. Even the trial version is from Quick Office and valid for only 7 days.

I have tried hard to find a free application for viewing PDF files on Nokia 5800 but i had no luck. There were a few J2ME viewers but they would crash on opening PDF files or they would not display the file properly.

ZOHO VIEWER is an online website that allows you to view a wide variety of document formats online. You just need to upload the document from your mobile and it will display is as a webpage. The website url is viewer.zoho.com.

It supports all the Microsoft documents. It also has support for the Open Office document formats. ZOHO has full support for viewing the PDF files online. I have used the Opera 10 for Nokia 5800 to view the documents on ZOHO on my phone. I would suggest you to download Opera and install it to try ZOHO.

We would really appreciate if you know about any free application for viewing PDF files on Nokia 5800 and share with us.

Nokia 5800 Tips & Tricks: Don’t have a zip manager – Unzip your files online for free

Sometimes, you may need to unzip some urgent file that you receive as an email or downloaded on your mobile. There are a few amazing free online services that allow you to upload your compressed file and then download the unzipped content back. I have tested these online services on Opera 10 for Nokia 5800 and successfully unzipped my files.

1. unzip.wapshare.us is a wap site that lets you upload your zipped content and get download links for all the files in the zipped file. You can then click on each of the download links and save them in your mobile. Simple and quick interface since it is a wap site. This website supports extraction from a url which means you can provide the direct url of the file to be unzipped and the complete download/unzipping takes place at the server's end which saves you from uploading the file. This service supports ZIP, RAR and 7Z compressed files. Supports password protected compressed files.

The Indian Premier League is back after a grand show in South Africa last year. It is one of the most awaited events in India and across the world in most of the cricket loving countries. It has cricket players from around the world playing for respective teams owned by some of the most famous celebrities in India.

I just happened to see a small java application with all the latest information on IPL  2010 which includes a list of players in each of the teams, complete schedule of the matches with location/date/time, list of the participating countries. You can categorize the players depending on the country and view a complete list. You can categorize the matches depending on the location. The best part of the application is that you do not require any internet connectivity. All the required information is within the application itself.

Nokia 5800 Free Services: Send free to India, Kuwait, UAE, Saudi, Singapore, Philippines & Malaysia

160by2 - Send Free messages to India, Kuwait, UAE, Saudi, Singapore, Philippines & Malaysiawww.160by2.com provides a free sms service which you can use to send text messages from both mobile and web to India, Kuwait, UAE, Saudi, Singapore, Philippines & Malaysia. There are a lot of similar services in the market but with them you really cannot be sure if your message was delivered or not. I have been using this service for quite a long time and thought of sharing on the blog since it supports other countries as well including India.

You can create an account with 160by2 and manage all the messages that you send and receive by means of an outbox and inbox. You can even manage a phone book on your account and use the web interface to send the messages easily. You also get some advertisement credit worth 5000 INR which can be used by you to create your own ad campaign.

How does 160by2 work?

As the very name suggests, you get 80 characters for sending your own message and rest of the 80 characters are used by advertisers for contextual ads which is a fair deal.

Whats makes 160by2 ideal for Nokia 5800?

160by2 offers a J2ME application that works fairly well on Nokia 5800. Although, all the features cannot be used since the application is not designed for Nokia 5800 but it supports touch screen functionality and allows you to type your message and number of the recipient and send it successfully using GPRS.

How fair is it to compare Nokia 5800 with N97?

Comparing Nokia 5800 and Nokia N97

Comparing Nokia 5800 and Nokia N97

Nokia N97 and Nokia 5800 are two different entities and comparing them is not justified at all but i have tried my level best to give a basic idea about the major differences between the two in this post. This may ease confusions of individuals who are on the brink of deciding which one to buy.

Although they support almost the same apps, you just have to browse the Nokia N97 Blog to see that they are not exactly the same.

First of all, Nokia N97 offers a full Qwerty keyboard apart from the touch screen which is only user data input option for Nokia 5800. Though both the phones share the same ARM 11 434 MHz processor they have huge differences in the memory aspect. Nokia N97 features a huge 32 GB internal memory which is further extended by a 16GB external memory capacity. Nokia 5800 has a small 81 MB internal memory and an external storage capacity of 16GB. Nokia N97 features a 5 MP camera as against N5800's 3.2 MP camera.

Talking about the physical features, N97 is quite heavier than N5800. N97 weighs 150 gm whereas N5800 weighs only 109 gm.

The screen display technology for both the phones is same however N5800 still does not support desktop widgets but this is something that can be fixed in the future firmware upgrades. N97 supports N-gage gaming platform which is still missing in Nokia 5800 but since both the phones run on a similar hardware, I do not see N-gage a distant probability for N5800.

All in all both the phones have the same technical specifications and if anything is different then it is limited to the full Qwerty keyboard option in N97. The software limitations in N5800 is something that may be eliminated soon.

Nokia 5800 Help Guide: F.A.Q. on updating your firmware to v40 using NSS and NSU

F.A.Q. on updating your firmware to v40 using NSS and NSU

F.A.Q. on the Original Post - Nokia 5800 Help Guide: Change your phone’s product code with NSS and upgrade firmware

Q.1. Why is some phones not eligible for the update? Will that change?

Ans. It has been a long time since the update was released and I think it should now be available for all the phones. The firmware upgrade provided by the Nokia server depend on a lot of factors like, your carrier if you have a carrier locked phone, the country you reside and the hardware version that your phone has. Nokia is a responsible organization and they would never release a firmware upgrade unless they have tested it on a device in your region which is in itself a long process. This may delay the upgrade to be available for your device.

Q.2. Can you please let me know how I can check if my product code has changed or not apart from NSS?

Ans. Yes you can check your device’s product code. You can use JAF to confirm it or after changing the product code disconnect your phone and repeat the entire process on NSS and you should be able to see your new product code.

Symbian^3 goes Open Source – What does it mean for Nokia 5800?

Symbian is Open SourceOn February 4, 2010, the Symbian Foundation made Symbian an open source platform. On February 15,2010, the new Symbian^3 was announced open source an the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. From a consumer point of view, this is a great news since following the footsteps of Android, we can now have great improvements and features in the existing Symbian OS.

Symbian Three basically focuses on the touch devices and how Symbian can actually evolve as a complete fully functional and bug-free OS for mobile phones. Symbian^3 is already into development and there are some important improvements being made. We will now have a single touch operations across the OS which means that you won't have to click any option twice to activate it. Something like what we have in iPhone and Nexus One. Also, there will be multi touch feature incorporated into Symbian giving you the same iPhone like feel (may be even better). You will have multiple desktop pages to which widgets can be added. Kinetic scrolling has been given a very high priority.

How does it affect Nokia 5800?

I am not really sure about how this is going to change things in our phone but certainly some of these features should come to Nokia 5800 via successive firmware upgrades like the one we had lately. We may have the entire Symbian^3 being ported to Nokia 5800 via upgrades, who knows? Let's keep our fingers crossed.

Also, you can now transfer and play your videos within the Ovi Suite. The Nokia Ovi Suite is now compatible with Windows 7 which is a great news for all the Windows 7 users.

Apart from these, there has been a great performance improvement in the new version. The latest version of the Nokia Ovi Suite is v.2.1.0.87. You can easily upgrade to the new version from your existing version by clicking on the Updates icon located at the top of the Ovi interface.

If you are a new user then you can download a complete installation file from Nokia which is 93 MB in size. Considering the new Nokia Ovi Suite, the PC Suite seems to be an item of the past which may now be most suitable for computer systems running on older versions of Microsoft Windows like Win 98, Win 2000, NT 4.0, Win 2003 , Windows Millennium etc.

Note: If you are having the Nokia PC Suite installed on your system as well then i would suggest that you uninstall it before installing the Ovi Suite. However, both of them can co-exist on your system, they should not be used simultaneously.
