Nokia 5800 Firmware Custom Version: 50.0.005.C02.01
Having gone through lot of comments and researching through the videos and other articles about the latest firmware upgrade, i have kind of understood the reason why many of us do not see all the features from the change-log. First, lets see what is actually available in change-log -
[VIA DAILY MOBILE]
* Browser 7.2
* Lifecasting (with Maps 3.0T SR3.0)
* Flash Video Phase-3 – Flashlite 3.1.7.x
* Gimlet Touch 2.2
* Kinetic scrolling in Appshell (Menu grid)
* OVI Sync 2.0
* Hurriganes Music Player
* Enable Side lock Key functionality during Swipe UI (Calendar/Clock alarm)
* Windows 7 Device Stage Support
* OVI store 1.5.6
* Quick Office v4.2
* OVI Music
* Cherry v2.1
* Rihanna service launcher
* OVI contacts 1.50.8
* Workaround for Niagara (SMD) display module for DFS52.50 based products
Currently, after updating via FOTA, we just see the kinetic scrolling, the Music Player updates and Ovi Maps Update. The reason for this is that we have a different update version. When i say a different update version, i am referring to the Custom Version. My phone shows the latest firmware upgrade's custom version as 50.0.005.Co2.01 and the one which has the missing features is 50.0.005.Co3.01. Hence, now you know what has gone wrong. I am working on a way to get the firmware update with all the features in the change-log and would be writing up a new post on it soon.

Nokia 5800 Firmware Custom Version: 50.0.005.C03.01 - Available on phones which have all the features in the change-log
At this point, i am supposing that what we did wrong was to update via FOTA. We need to check updating the phone via NSU. However, there could be another reason for which we do not have all the features and that is a sort of restriction depending on the region you bought the phone from. The one which has all the updates happens to a Euro version as per DailyMobile's change-log update. So if you have a phone from Asia Pacific, you may not get all the features because Nokia restricted that. The reason for this restriction could be that you bought the phone cheaper in your region and you are not eligible for premium features like Quick Office etc. Also, the reason may be that it is still not fully tested for the phones in your region. Let's keep our fingers crossed and see if i can find a way to get over this problem.

Firmware Update for Nokia 5800 - v50.0.005
A new firmware update is available for Nokia 5800 and i am downloading the same as i am writing this post. This is v50.0.005 and available via FOTA (Firmware Update Over The Air). All you need to do is type '*#0000#' on your dialer and check for updates and if you are lucky you should have this update available for download. The update size is 9811 KB. I am excited to review the upcoming changes to the phone and enhancements. Currently, we do not have kinetic scrolling in the Applications Menu and the SIP client is also not available. I hope this update provides these enhancements. Also, i hope we get the home-screen widget support.

I have complete the firmware update and reviewing some of the new features. As of now i see Kinetic scrolling in the Main Menu and Applications Menu. There is a new Ovi Sync icon in the Applications Menu. I will be writing up a new post soon detailing the change-log. Meanwhile, you can update your phone to the new firmware and enjoy the kinetic scrolling feature.
The folks from MMMOOO are celebrating 1 year of the release of MyPhone and we have joined this celebration to give nokia5800.net lots of "stuff". Yah, until the end of the month, we will be holding contests, give free stuff and great discounts at the Nokia 5800 Blog, so, I advice you o stay in touch via our RSS Feed or e-mail subscription that is on the sidebar.

The first version of MyPhone - August 2008
As I was saying the first MyPhone was released by August last year and got a lot of buzz around the web, but the best from MyPhone just came when they released the MyPhone for S60 5th edition devices, which was the first version for Nokia 5800. I remember very well when the folks from MMMOOO contacted us and we reviewed this version of MyPhone, after seeing the review of Myphone by Jametif I immediately bought one MyPhone application for myself and indeed a great job was done by MMMOOO with this app. After 1 year of developing the MyPhone, MMMOOO folks have now much more experience and many other applications have been build, like the Win7 or the iXP.
Recently I upgraded my Nokia 5800 phone to the latest firmware version v30.0.011 via FOTA. As it was promised and witnessed earlier, I expected my device to be much more enhanced in terms and performance and functionality. Well... it did look faster but I had a rather strange problem, I was no longer able to go to the Call Log from the home screen after pressing on the green call button. Another problem that I found scary was the fact that my shortcuts on the home screen were no longer visible.

Nokia 5800 Firmware Update v30.0.011
I was beginning to believe that there was certainly something wrong with my phone's hardware as I used to use my phone to its optimum capacity. I have around 40 applications installed at this time and many of them have settings and data that are way too important for me and I can't lose them.
I then started digging deep in to the internet in search of a solution and more insight on the problem and this is what I experienced and learnt:

Win7 application from MMMOOO
After our exclusive news regarding a future Win7 release by the folks from MMMOOO here we are writing about the Win7 official release. Now you can test by your own and check the fantastic functionalities of this Symbian S60 Launcher, Win7. You can purchase the Windows 7 emulator for a special release price of 4,99$ here.
On this Win7 version, the first one, you have direct access to the applications you want on the start menu and on the desktop, allowing you to run the applications letting the Win7 launcher interface active. At the sidebar you have a widget bar and on this version it only runs a calendar and an analogue clock, who knows this can be improved on the next version? But it is already very nice to see this kind of functions on this Win7 environment.
After you install the Win7 application you will be able to select from 6 different wallpapers and you can just change them as you would on a normal PC. The Win7 is very user friendly and gives your phone a fresh and familiar look.
Some particular apps my require termination of the Win7 interface as Win7 is using Flash Lite.
On the older post we made you can have a look and see some screenshots of the Win7 application on many platforms, but I can make sure it works very nice on the Nokia 5800 and on the Nokia 97, symbian s60 v5 editions. We will of course make a Win7 review on a 5800 phone and hold a contest as soon as possible.

There is a new firmware for 5800 doing rounds in the inter-circles of web since June 22. Available for a selected few product codes (maily HongKong) and the firmware version is v21.0.101 and not v31.0.15 as has been widely rumored in blogosphere, which was previously covered in our blog here.
While there has been no official changelong released by Nokia, users who have updated their firmware have reported improved browsing experience on the default symbian browser and as with every firmware update the phone is more responsive and faster with the new update. There is a marginal improvement in the camera performance as well, which has been one of the most sought after feature by most of the 5800 users, ever since it was launched. Its good to know that Nokia have finally responded to requests from 5800 users. However Kinetic scrolling continues to baffle 5800 as of now.

MyPhone v2.2 Menu Screen
We were the first source on the web, to bring you a sneak preview of Android emulator, M1 and now we are again the first source to give our readers a sneak of the latest version of: you guessed it right, MyPhone-Infinite. We are making a habit of being the first with anything that's related to 5800. As much as we love our 5800s, we love to bring the latest news and reviews, along with some free licenses to give away to our fellow 5800 users.
If MyPhone v2.11 was impressive, MyPhone v2.2 will blow your mind away! I am not exaggerating what so ever when I say this but the latest version is indeed a(n) (iPhone) killer application.
Our developer friends at MMMOOO never take a break, do they? After launching the Android emulator-M1 last month, they have now revamped the most happening application on 5800. With their latest version of MyPhone, MMMOOO has responded to some requests from users of earlier versions of MyPhone and added a few innovative features of their own. The result: an awesome emulator that will make your non 5800/n97 friends go gaga over you. With MyPhone v2.2, not only will you have the mighty symbian as your OS but also a working interface of the most happening phone a.k.a over hyped phone of the world: iPhone.
Whats new in v2.2? Well, the official change-log should be up at the MMMOOO website when its released in a few days. However, some of the changes that are worth mentioning are:
- Faster and more responsive performance
- Languages supported: Chinese and English (German and French to be added soon)
- All new icon set with no need for manual configuration of default symbian applications (This is the best feature in my view)
- iPhone like SMS interface (Users asked for it and MMMOOO delivered it!!)
Do take a look at the gallery below for some screenshots highlighting the new features.

Searching for the all new SMS interface? Well, you will have to wait for 2 more days to get a glimpse of that and believe me its definitely worth the wait. Adiós till then and don't forget to keep checking our blog for the latest news and reviews on 5800.
You can buy the version 2.11 and then upload to the v 2.22 when released, here!

5530 Xpress Music
Remember the pictures of rumored 5900 Xpress Music doing the rounds on internet, just around the same time last month? We did cover that on our blog here. It turns out that the pictures were authentic but the speculations were wrong. Nokia Conversations just announced the results of its "Pass the Parcel", here in Singapore and much to the surprise of everyone, it was not Nokia N97 as many were expecting but a brand new Xpress Music Series Phone bearing the model number 5530. Pass the Parcel as you may know by now was an online contest by Nokia, wherein a package was passed around randomly among shortlisted bloggers, with the package being unwrapped layer by layer as it moved around and one lucky blogger got to unwrap the final layer of package and unveil the hidden product to the world. Nokia has been really impressive with its promotion on onlne media these days: first with their "Search for N" for N97s and now with "Pass the Parcel", making waves in effervescent blogosphere like no other.
The contest was won by PhoneDog.com, who get a 5530 Xpress Music phone prior to its official launch in the third quarter of 2009, along with an exclusive interview with the product manager for their blog. Nokia Conversations has also promised some "goodies" for other bloggers who participated in the contest along with a "special treat" for one lucky netizen who has been commenting on Nokia Conversations for the past few days. The goodies and the lucky commenter and his "special treat" will be announced later.

Screenshots of M1 - Android Emulator by MMMOOO
Android interface is coming to a symbian device near you! Surprised? This news is exclusive to followers of our blog as we are proud to be the first source on internet to announce that developers at MMMOOO are coming up with an Android emulator for our beloved 5800s (s60 5th edition devices) and s60 third edition mobile devices. The screenshots to the left are from a s60 third edition device but the folks at MMMOOO have assured us that the emulator aptly titled "M1", inspired by HTC G1, will be very much functional on s60 5th edition devices. M1 will be priced at USD 6.99 and will be officially launched on June 18th this year.
Inspired by the success of MyPhone, which definitely is the hottest application for 5800 today, MMMOOO has come up with this fully functional android emulator-M1. As with MyPhone, M1 is just an application launcher for s60 devices. M1 brings in features of android interface like: transition from standby menu to main menu with a drag icon, option of adding unlimited 3rd part icons in the applications menu and an independant application displaying SMSs in iPhone style conversation window (only for the s60 fifth edition devices).
It can be seen from the screenshots above that screen lock, drag to main main menu and sideways drag to the second screen are functional. It can be assumed that as with android interface, M1 will also support three screens and the screen transitions will be as smooth as with MyPhone application if not any better. So be ready to get a feel of Android on your 5800s, come this June 18th.
P.S- We will be giving out MyPhone Exceeding iPhone licenses at a special promotional price to our readers soon. More details on this in the next post. Till then check out screenshots of the Android emulator-M1 for s60 devices.
