I had the most intense experience. I almost bricked my phone. I'm sure some of you might have encountered this, but I'm really careful on installing stuff on my phone. And then it happened.
It froze! turn it off and on and it's stuck in Nokia logo. Take the battery out, memory and SIM card, still the same (this time, I'm sweating like a pig)
hard reset of *#7370# won't help me since dialer is not available.
Then it occured to me, I read this somewhere, after a few minutes of research, i found it again.
Hard reset using the hardware keys:

GREEN + RED + CAMERA button all press together
and then hit power key, wait for it to show the handshake and
you should get a prompt for pin code and/or lock code(the site says that it should go back to 12345 lock code, mine stayed the same)

That worked like a charm, it'll boot to factory default, let's just hope that you back up your stuff.

    Just a friendly reminder
    Hope it helps.

    Hi jametif,

I've just registered to give you a massive thank you for this tip.

My computer crashed last night as I was backing up my phone. Then when I tried to turn off my phone and restart it, it stayed on the nokia screen. I had tried all of the above (removing sim, card battery), but nothing worked until I found your post.

Thank you so much. I'll now be visitting this forum frequently for all my 5800 needs!

Sometimes it helps to take out your memory card and power up. After powering and everything has been loaded, just insert the memory card back.

    you saved my phone,
i instaled a load of the free apps games , from the ovi site
via my wifi connection onto my phone.
then tried to boot it up.
and like you the boot screen froze
removing the memory card and rebooting did it for me.
    so cheers, you lot

Y tried to download the new version of the O.S. from Nokia and followed all instruccions to the letter. Everything was going fine and just 22 second before finishing the installation something failed and the 5800 went dead. Nothing will revive it. I tried the operation above, there is a screen lightening -for a second- and the handshake but the phone goes dead again. I tried to get help from Nokia Support but they requested the serial number of the phone and there is none under the battery or the original box. They told me it is an illegal phone and won't help me. The phone was purchased at Costco 5 months ago. Costco won't do anything about it. Any Ideas?

Unfortunately, you need Nokia. Under the battery, there should be a Nokia sticker that looks like a large SIM card. If you are missing that, it may indeed be a stolen phone.

thank you. you saved my life.

    this is my experience.
the phone won't boot up this morning.

honestly in 15 days since I bought it I installed a lot of nice and useful appl :-)))

so after borrow a second pair of hands to press gree+red+camera+switch... now it works

now I'm afraid to do a restore a backup of 2 days ago. viceversa now I found some application present ad other not present... and I don't know what to do

during the boot phone said initializing memory card... and then failed... ARGH (??!!??!!).
however it seems that all my stuff on microSD are present.

OMG you guys saved my life. I was so scared when this happened to me but i took out my memory card and it worked. It's definitely to do with the new ovi store update.
