Free Nokia Game: Tic-Tac-Toe by OffScreen

By Rodney Garcia | August 19, 2009

From the back of notebooks in schools to the childhood memories of yesteryears, a classic and addicting game comes to the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic Phone. The Tic-Tac-Toe game from OffScreen gives us a new twist to this classic game. But first, let’s talk about the basics.

How many players?

How many players?

Upon launching the application, you will be shown four buttons: two small buttons at the top corners and two big buttons in the middle. The “I” button basically displays the “About Us” window that tells us the name of the application and the creators (OffScreen). The “X” button closes the application. I suggest you don’t touch that unless you really want to leave.

The two big buttons found in the middle have a “One Person” and “Two Person” icon respectively. It reminds you of those images placed on the door of the public bathrooms. Choose your game play. If you want to play against the computer, choose the “One Person” icon. If you want to battle with a friend, then go for the “Two person” icon.

Then, you will gain access to the Tic-Tac-Toe game board. The game board is nine by thirteen (9 x 13) in dimensions or 117 square. You get the first turn in placing your “O” on the board. The computer will put his “X” on the board automatically. No waiting time for the computer.

Unlike the traditional Tic-Tac-Toe, you must make four “X” or “O” in a row and not three. Having 117 squares, you have a pretty good chance of winning. However, you still need to plan out you moves since the computer does win sometimes. In Two Player mode, the automatic placing of markers does not apply. Having more squares gives you more possibilities to either win or lose. If you are playing in two-person mode, just choose between yourselves who will play the “X” and the “O”. Remember: the “O” goes first. You do not have an option to choose which mark you want to become.

Use your squares wisely.

Use your squares wisely.

Upon forming four in a row (whether horizontal, vertical or diagonal), the application stops and scribbles a line across the winning mark (X or O) which signals the end of the game. There are no scores here. It is just a one round game. No best of three or five. If you want to play another round, the “One Player” and “Two Player” icons will reappear at their designated positions. Just choose and play away.

Since the squares are small, you better be careful in choosing them. If you choose the wrong square, there is no way of undoing it. The computer automatically puts his mark anywhere on the game board. The same goes for two player mode so choose wisely. We suggest you use the stylus that comes with the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone especially if you have bigger fingers than usual folks.

The Tic-Tac-Toe application by OffScreen is FREE to download at the Ovi store. You can download the application directly to your Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone via the Ovi application.
