Nokia 5800 gets Tubed.

Google has officially released the YouTube application client for the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone. This S60 5th edition has been in the works for quite some time. But now it is available to the public for download for the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone. Apparently, this release has been enhanced for the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone.

The YouTube application fits nicely on the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone interface. It gives you the opportunity to search for your videos via the search bar found at the top of the screen. At the bottom, you will see three buttons: Top Rated, Most viewed and Most Recent. These would the video classifications from YouTube which you can use to jump start your video viewing fix.

The YouTube application has a scrolling feature just like Apple's Cover flow which has been somewhat a standard in viewing videos online today. The flow is very fluid. The video displays the name and authors on the screen. The thumbnails will be loaded as you scroll. If you have a good wifi connection, this will not be a problem.

Upon choosing the video, the thumbnail expands to a full screen unlike before when it just shifts to the video viewing mode. This is a neat visual feature for your Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone. When you tap on the screen while the video is playing, standard YouTube player buttons such as previous, next and play appear. At the bottom will be the scroller/jogging slider for video searching, the time lapse and the volume control.

Ready to watch YouTube videos?

Unfortunately, the YouTube client for the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone does not have the "upload videos" feature which would have been a great addition. Now, we have you upload our videos via PC. So you shoot now and upload later.

The YouTube application for the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic is basically a video browser and not much of a complete YouTube application which is quite disappointing. The whole idea of YouTube is to put your videos online any time you want to. I hope the guys at Google will find a way to do this since uploading videos is standard on the iPhone.

The YouTube application for the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic is free to download. To download the app, visit http://m.youtube.com from your device and you'll see a link at the top prompting you to download.

If you don't see the link, please do the following.

1) You may need to try with a different browser.

2) You may need to switch the language drop-down box at the bottom to English.

This was my Point of view regarding the Youtube client, that wasn't totally and officially released when Sushant reviewed the same Youtube application for Nokia 5800 Xpress Music. Now it's official, now you can download it via Google.

Wow just tried it from Ovi store, looks a bit budget but it works. Does anyone know whether it uses Flash Lite? When u click on a video, it goes straight to playing it through a typical youtube UI… so not that Real player bs? Strange ‘coz BBC’s iPlayer app launches Real player for playback… i’d like to know how they did that Youtube app. :?:
