No 5800 for Christmas?

By Meraj Chhaya | October 3, 2008

Reuters has said that the 5800 will miss the Christmas season, which is usually the best for both consumers and suppliers. Countries others than India, Indonesia, the United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Russia and Spain will only see the phone next year.

Nokia is quite late on touchscreen phones, there are only two of them in the market from the manufacturer, and the delay in shipping means that the company will lose market share, but most importantly, our readers might just go for another device.

Not all is bad news, here's a video of the live Remix event in London, courtesy of mocoNews:

  3. Josh says:

    LOL a holiday and a phone! :D

Its only a rumor at this point, anyway, lets just hope it aint true!

  4. Muhammad says:

Hmm…not good for Nokia, but we always know that many people remain shopping after christmas..

  5. Rami says:

Coooool… I live in United Arab Emirates. Can wait.

  6. Meraj Chhaya says:

I hope you mean “can’t wait”

  7. Rami says:

lol yep just a typo CANT WAIIIIT. :)

  8. Pdexter says:

I wouldn’t go panic mode yet. Only official info is still the November global release from Nokia.
Someone from Symbian-freak.com was in the London event and when he asked about the release date he was answered that it’s October for uk(+Finland maybe?) and November, December release for the rest of the world.

Not saying that this might not be true, but for now there’s nothing official.

  9. Meraj Chhaya says:

Sounds too soon, really, let’s see what happens

  10. nG says:

So does that mean that the USA won’t get the phone until next year? Would one still be able to order it online on Oct 8th?

  11. Meraj Chhaya says:

You can order it online, but I don’t know when you will get it

  12. Dnv says:

It’s very good. Russia will be the first countru which get Nokia 5800.
And year later people in russia had to buy iphone from not official channels from Europe.
Now may be you will buy NOKIA from Russia :) ?

  13. Vahur says:

It’s highly unlikely that they will actually release 5800 to these countries before western countries. As simple as it is, they have to sell as many as possible and releasing to USA and Europe is probably first. I see no reason why they should release it to 3rd world countries before.

  14. Avant says:

Vahur…If you call India and China as third world countries , i think you should catch with what’s going around in the world rather than posting comments..

  15. Vahur says:

India and China are still in rapid economical and infrastructural growth which is common to 3rd world countries. They have not yet had enough time to become developed and not quite 2nd world countries either. Might not be so in about 10+ years, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves, shall we?

  16. callum says:

    hape get’s released uk first

  17. micheal says:

hope it comes fosrt to The Netherlands (there i live!:D) i can’t wait:(:S
    i hope it comes soon(A)

  18. CMS says:

Well, I’ve just know in Russia nokia5800 selling is announced on 5th December by the “Eldorado” market network. I’ve already took a place in queue! ;)))

  19. Dnv says:

Yes. Russia will be first! 8)
And the first price will be about 16000 rubels.

  20. toutratus says:

where did you see it would be out in Spain before X-Mas?

  21. Paris1981 says:

Hello everybody.Any latest news about the release date of the 5800?

  22. Sam says:

Heard from sources that it will be launched in the 3rd week of november’08(probably) in india, russia and some other countries. us n uk will not get this fone before next yr(again probably). and the price would be around 19-20k indian rupees :-).

  23. Erhard says:

The release lies within the music store. All UK providers have their own music store and do not want competition from Nokia. That is why the release has been postphoned until next year.

Russia, India and Hong Kong provide a big market and with all the advertising Nokia has already made the whole world is eager to grab this mobile and has plenty opportunity to do this in those markets for a higher price.

But be very careful that you get what you ordered. I suppose very often ther is no Nokia 5880 in the box although the box tells you it is.  Pay after you got it not before.

  24. lollll says:

It’s Finnish phone y can’t we get it first???? Now I have to go to Russia to buy a Finnish mobile.

  25. Meraj Chhaya says:

I’m sure Finland will actually get it first

  26. mitcherj says:

What about Australia anyone know of any release date?

  27. gaga says:

    @mitcherj:
i doubt any time soon. but i’m sure many of the chinese in australia will have some imported from HK/India for sale.

  28. praneeth says:

  29. jaujau says:

I just reserved my 5800 here in finland. The salesman was not sure about the date when it actually will be available, but they were pretty sure that it will arrive dec 10. or during week 50. Some webstores promise to have the phone at least on week 51.

  30. I found your blog on google and read a few of your other posts. I just added you to my Google News Reader. Keep up the good work. Look forward to reading more from you in the future.
