Nokia 5800 App Review: Bye Bye Caller – Receive fake calls on your phone

By Anunay Kumar | October 4, 2009

Most of the time, we are stuck in situations like boring meetings, boring get-togethers etc when we really fall short of excuses for an ultimate escape. This is where Bye Bye Caller comes into picture. Bye Bye Caller is an application that allows you to receive fake calls on your phone.

Bye Bye Caller is an innovative application which may find a lot of utility among people. It has a simple mechanism. You can set the time interval after which you wish to receive the call. You can even set the operator name that displays on your home screen when the fake call comes. You can specify the name of the person calling. You can set the ringtone volume and the vibration option and you can even set your home screen backlight to blink when the call comes.

My take on this application would be that it is still at a very nascent stage. I remember reviewing a similar application for the HTC blog which had very detailed controls on the way you wish to receive the fake call. Here, you can set the interval of up to two minutes from the time you wish to receive a phone call. You cannot set a clock time as a fixed time to receive the call as in 9.30 AM, 9.30 PM etc. Moreover, the one I reviewed for HTC even allowed you to add the caller’s name and number from your phone contacts. However, BBCaller allows you to just specify the name of the caller. Also, BBCaller just plays the default Nokia ringtone and you cannot change it.

What I feel is that we never had such an application for Symbian devices, so we should give this application more time to develop. This application for now has all the basic features of a fake call which in times to come can be better developed. Although there is one feature that I really feel useless is the operator name change option.

Please go ahead and install this application and let us know how you feel about it through your comments.
