Nokia 5800 App Review: Nokia Photo Browser

By jametif | April 1, 2009

screenshot0060We just want to let everyone know that Nokia Beta Labs just released a new beta application for Nokia 5800. It is called Nokia Photo browser. This application is released only for S60 5th edition. For a change, S60 3rd edition owners had to wait.

I want to let you know that this is just a regular browser that can be compared with photoflow, which is pretty good. Although this app has more feature and user interface is a lot better than other photo browser. To start, when you launch the app for the first time, give it a few minutes to load your entire picture in the library, some of them will look blank while loading. Once the pictures are loaded you can show all pictures in a grid view, both portrait and landscape. There are few things that made this a good photo browser. One is browsing through your photo is a lot faster than the gallery browser on your phone. You can control the speed of the photo, and you can even browse from end to end in a few seconds, and the interface while browsing has a cool effect. Another neat feature is to be able to tap and hold the picture file to use the magnify feature, which is the alternative to zoom. You can still zoom by double tapping the screen.

Here are the feature that were mentioned on their site:
* Strokes, drags, and taps should work as you'd expect
* In the single image view:
* Long press to start the magnifier
* Double-tap will start the regular zoom
* Double-tap on a face will start the face browsing
* In the face browsing mode, a stroke will travel between faces
* Press hang-up key to exit the Photo Browser

I really like this application. I like to take pictures but sometimes it's painful to browse them using the gallery browser. With this app, I can always go through my pictures in a breeze.

You can download the Application through here.

I just installed it…..it’s great even if it takes a while before uploading all you pics and I did not understand how facetagging works :-) :-(

  2. Raszeck says:

It’s not really facetagging, mind you, It’s just face recognition as in a camera software (like the face recognition in SE C905 and such) that allows you to browse from face to face tapping twice in a photo, with a swipe of your finger.

And yep, I find it quite an improvement for a phone like this, I’d love to see it included in a future firmware update replacing the actual gallery app (maybe with some more functions and zoom modes)
