Nokia 5800 App Review: Opera Mobile 10 Beta 2 – Symbian Version

By Anunay Kumar | January 26, 2010

We all know about Opera which happens to be the master of mobile internet browsing. I have reviewed the previous versions of Opera 4 and Opera 5 for Nokia 5800 which happened to be the J2ME versions. Opera 4 was a nice one but Opera 5 somehow was not stable on Nokia 5800. Opera Mobile 10 Beta 2 is a symbian version and works flawlessly on Nokia 5800. The entire layout and user interface which appears on Nokia 5800 gives a feel as if you are not browsing on Nokia 5800 and you are on an entirely different phone.

This version of Opera is much more stable than previous versions. The kind of functionalities that have been included is really useful and productive. Suppose you need to copy some text on your webpage. You just need to keep touching the screen for 2 secs and it will pop up a select text option which you can click and after that you can select anything on the screen. As soon as you select a text on the screen, you get three different options which define the type of action you can perform with the selected text. Another amazing feature in this version is the webpage save option. Download files with Opera 10 is easy than ever.

You can set your own preferences like, page magnification value, full screen option, Opera Turbo option and a whole bunch of other settings. I browsed through our entire blog on Opera 10 and it did not even crash once which was amazing. The load time for pages was as usual very fast and optimized to eat up as less data as possible.

I would really suggest installing this version of opera and i strongly feel you will never use the phone browser again.

Download Opera 10 Beta 2

Although the Beta 1 was so buggy it would crash after 2 minutes of browsing saying there wasn’t any bit of memory available (LOL), the Beta 2 is so cool, and so fast, I have never returned to the default browser… I wonder when the final version will come out..

I use both Opera Mini and Mobile, Mini while on expensive 3G and Mobile usually when on WIFI. Do you use both browsers, when and why?

I agree; I have also used it myself in all cases except for where the proper user agent string was necessary to initiate a download.
The usability is comparable to the Mobile Safari and it also includes features first seen in the iPhone’s default browser, e.g. scrolling to the top of the page results in showing the address bar. Similarly, the unnecessary question of choosing an access point has been eliminated, too.
It also passes the ACID 3 test (http://acid3.acidtests.org/) with 100/100 due to its standards-conform implementation.

To make a long story short: I’m satisfied using beta 2!

Why not provide the url of the opera website that is a lot faster than ziddu… from ziddu I got 3kbps with an internet of 12mbps .. hunf.

    • Anunay says:

The one i posted on Ziddu was the file i downloaded directly on my cell and it was a tested one. I was not sure if you are going to get the same file for Nokia 5800. Moreover, more navigation would be required to download through Opera.

been using opera for a while now and had no probs its a fantastic browser and alot more stable than the phones built in browser, opera has never crashed or switched itself off.

i use the mini beta 2 version it seems to be quicker than the mobile 10 beta 2 version

I use Opera 10 also on my Mac and it’s great.
Only a thing I don’t like: the zoom is fixed on a level set in Tools > Settings.
Something like the zoom command in Mobile Safari would be better, in my opinion.

  7. tekno says:

it’s a great mobile browser.. no doubt. so friendly and easy to use… however, i hope opera mobile can include support for flash as skyfire mobile browser in the future..
