Well its been cool apps all the way ever since Ovi was launched a few days ago. If Qik left you totally bowled over and eyeCall made you the coolest person at the party table, check this out, Searchme will definitely make you the coolest surfer/browser in your group.  You would have probably heard of searchme for it was taunted to be the google killer many a times since last year when it was still in its beta stage. Searchme has come a long way since then, launching clients on all the popular mobile platforms including apple, android and symbian besides providing a mobile version of their search engine. Let see how it fares on our Nokia 5800s.

Installation

I am really starting to enjoy Ovi store for now I dont have to prowl on net looking for cool applications for my 5800. All I have to do is just open the ovi client on my 5800 and download an interesting  application.  I have been seeing searchme in the recommended section of ovi store ever since it was launched and only today did I get a chance to download this application. So there you go, either you can directly  download Searchme from ovi client on your phone or you can download from ovi store on your desktop before transferring it your 5800. I just checked there is now even a mobile version of ovi store in case you have not been able download ovi client on your 5800s. Download and installation should take around 15 s on wi-fi as this a pretty small but awesome package.

Features

What does Searchme do? Well, it does very much what you would expect it to do from its name but it does that in style. You can browse through your search results in itunes cover flow like interface or in other words its a visual search engine. Everyone knows how easy and cool it is to be able to use the cover flow feature of itunes to browse through your music. Now imagine what this feature would do to your internet browsing experience. The adjacent screenshot should illustrate my point here.

What happens here is you just flip around till you get to the page you feel like is worth visiting and then select it. This will open this site in the default symbian browser, allowing you to checkout the complete webpage. This is a very cool feature and comes in very handy for data mining. I used to have several plugins on my firefox which would give me a screenshot of the search results but all this changed when I came across Searchme especially for entertainment and news. Now that its available on symbian platform, I am so gonna use this and flaunt around.

Pros

1. Visual search is a refresing and innovative feature for internet browsing
2. Interface as fluid as that of the itunes cover flow on ipod touch/iphone
3. Fully optimized for finger touch browsing

Cons

1. It does take a while (around 10s or more) to list out the search results as panes to select from
2. Sometimes the links failed to open in the symbian browser after being redirected from searchme client

Verdict

I am seriously at loss of words to describe how cool this application is. This is one of those applications which will make you stand out in a crowd and get you those second glances from strangers. No kidding, this is one of the coolest applications I have reviewed so far. If I am asked to pick the coolest application on 5800 today, I would definitely chose either this or may be qik. I would highly recommend this application on your 5800 and guess what its totally free.
