Nokia 5800 App Review: Snake Deluxe v2.0

By Anunay Kumar | April 17, 2009

scr000031Snake Deluxe as the name suggests is a game with a similar concept to Nokia’s age old Snake game. You have to guide the snake to eat a fruit and as it eats the fruit, its size increases and thus making the guidance difficult and challenging. I do agree that its an addictive game and has a great time killing capacity.

The graphics is very accurate and seriously designed giving you the feel of a premium game. It is a full screen game with a lot of levels and modes (Easy, Hard and Adventure). In each of these modes the landscape within which the snake has to crawl changes with different hurdles.

One of the best features of Snake Deluxe 2 is the usability feature of its interface. If you need to close the game or pause it or abandon a game and restart another, then it has controls are placed at very convenient positions. Also, it has useful help tips for each stage which you have the option to disable if you don’t want them to appear.

scr000033One of the major drawbacks of snake Deluxe 2 is its response to the stylus tap. Actually the game settings give you three different speed options – Normal, fast and fastest. In the first two i.e. Normal and Fast speed modes, the stylus tap is not sensed correctly by the game because the snake does not seem to respond to the tap, giving you a feel as if your tap was not properly registered by the phone. This leads to the user making multiple taps which further worsen the situation and you lose the game. I don’t know if this is the designed strategy of the game.

So, I played the game selecting “Fastest” as the speed mode. In this mode the stylus taps were registered perfectly by the game and I thoroughly enjoyed the game.

Another feature of the game that I felt adds a bit of competition and makes the game interesting is the uploading of scores. Once you defeat a high scorer out of the 5 listed, you get the option to upload your score which then lists you out of the five.
