Nokia 5800 App Review: SymTorrent – Torrent client for Nokia 5800

We all know about torrents and why they are so famous. Yes, now we have torrents downloading directly to our very own Nokia 5800. SymTorrent is a symbian S60 3rd Edition client that reads torrents and directly downloads the files to the memory card.

This application is originally designed for Nokia S60 3rd Edition and works very much for S60 5th Edition as well. I have tried this application on my own device and had excellent results. I have tested this application on a Wi-Fi connection and was able to get the maximum download speed as per allowed by my ISP’s bandwidth.

I would not suggest using this application for very huge and long downloads in terms of file size and time length because it may put a lot of pressure on the device’s hardware. But you can for sure use it for downloading MP3 files and other files that you may want.

You can download this application directly from the developer’s website for free. Download here

Installation Instructions – It is very easy to install like other applications that you have installed previously; however, there is a warning shown when installing this application saying that this application is not compatible with the device. Just ignore that warning and select YES to continue the installation. Also, make sure that you install the application on your memory card.

Another important fact is that you need to download the torrent files and have them saved on your memory card before starting this application because this application only runs the torrent and does not search them.

You can visit mininova.org on your phone's browser to download torrents.

when you first search for the torrent file on your pc make sure there are seeds for the file if the seeds =0 then it will never start u have to have at least 1 seed to complete any torrent download

      Thx

Have set up the Program on the Nokia 5800 Memory Card, downloaded a ‘Torrent’ to a folder , again on the memory card, then run Symtorrent but when asked to Add Torrent the Torrent doesn’t show up in it’s location (using Symtorrent ! ) but I know it’s there !!!
It shows up going though the ‘File Manager of the Mobile !! ( as a 12445645675.ndif File !! )

Anyone know what I may be doing wrong ??

Hi. Completley out of context, sorry, but this forum seems to be very knowledgeable and helpful. I have no ‘Application update’ option in my application menu. I really want to update flash lite to 3.1 and the application update seems to be the best method of doing so
Also, my download icon in the menu has been replaced by an OVI icon. Is this right?
Thanks in advance for ANY replys. As long as they ain’t offensive

    hi
excellent job. i have a question , will this application run with EDGE connection ?
i have a unlimited data plan on EDGE which speeds up to 90 kbps ….
    please confirm…
    thanks in advance

    • Anunay Kumar says:

Yes you can use it on edge given you have a full connectivity that is some operators provide a cheaper and costlier versions of the data connection. It will work on the costlier which supports socket connection apart from http and https.
