Nokia 5800 App Review – UCBrowser 7 – a new look and feel added with extra functionalities

By Anunay Kumar | January 28, 2010

UC Browser is just another browser not really as good as the Opera Browser for the Nokia 5800 i reviewed in my last post. However, it has come long way since i last knew about it. It was buggy and unstable when i last used it. UC Browser 7 is an all new avatar of the last version i laid hands on. It is much more stable and refined, displays the webpages just like you see on your PC browser.

Browsing over this browser on Nokia 5800 was a fine experience. In terms of functionality, i would say it surpasses Opera. It has an inbuilt download manager which supports low speeds over the 2G network. The download manager allows you to save your download anywhere on the phone, something which is not available in Opera 10 Beta 2. It somehow restricts the download to the phone memory only.

The browser features a much more advanced copy text functionality which allows you to copy and send the copied text as a multimedia sms. You can easily opt to send the url of any page as a sms and share it with anyone. You do not need to save the url as a bookmark to send as a sms. The nokia browser does not feature this facility. Thus, i would say with tabbed browsing and all the new features UC Browser 7 requires at-least one trial by any Nokia 5800 user.

I don’t know what you’re doing wrong, but I can download anywhere on my 5800 with opera mobile beta 2. In the Download file dialog I just tap the default ‘documents’ and then scroll down to “Other…” and choose C:\ for phone or E:\ for memory card, and folders after that. No problem at all.

Seconded. You can download things anywhere with Opera, just select Other.

Yes, I can also confirm – I can save downloaded files on E: on my phone, both using Opera Mini beta 2 and I was able to do so with Opera Mobile beta 1 (cause I haven’t tried it yet on the beta 2, but I would be surprised if there are some problems in this newer version).

Yes, some how i did not see the the E:\ option and thats why i thought i cannot save it to the memory card. Thanks.
