In the tradition of the classic 80's game Arkanoid, Meteor brings the same concept but with a different twist.
Set in the backdrop of the cosmos, you must use your spaceship’s metal shield to deflect a glowing metal ball that hurls towards a barrage of different colorful bricks.
Initially, you are given 14 chances to finish the stages.
You release the ball towards the bricks by tapping on the screen and control the spaceship by horizontally gliding your finger (left to right and vice versa) at the lower portion of the screen. When you destroy all bricks, you will go to the next stage. There are special bricks that contain different items that can affect your game play such as expanding or reducing the size of your metal shield or multiplying your metal balls to three.
Though there may not be background music during game, sound effects and vocal sound bites add realism to the gaming experience.
The fully-licensed game has ninety stages each having different space backgrounds and brick arrangements.
You can increase your level of play between Easy, Normal or Hard.
Interestingly, there are special elements for every stage. In stage two, using your glowing ball, you have to destroy not just the bricks but a UFO. The other stages are locked in the demo mode, but according to the game’s message that appears after you have played the game, there are other weapons and enemies that you will see in the full version.
The game records ten (10) of your highest scores, but it does not give you the option to add your name as other games normally do.
You can increase and decrease the sound of the game. This way, you can play without disturbing those around you.
If you don’t know how to play the game, you can press the HELP button and the instructions will be displayed.
Since the sliding panel is not wide enough, controlling the space ship will take some getting used to especially for those with wide fingers. I used my nail and still had some trouble with it. I recommend that you use the stylus that comes with the Nokia 5800 for a much easier game play. However, make sure your stylus continues to be on the gliding panel because you can get too involved in the action and not notice it sliding off.
The designers and programmers of this game did an excellent job in bringing an addictive and visually impressive game to the Nokia 5800 platform. If you are looking for an addictive Nokia 5800 game that can provide hours of fun, then Meteor is the game you should purchase.
The trial game can be downloaded at http://www.mobile-stream.com and the full version can be purchased for $14.95.
