Ludimate's Sensible Sudoku finally answers my quest for that perfect Sudoku client on my 5800. As seen during my previous reviews of Sudoku Softt Touch and Sudoku Master, both of them suffered from serious shortfalls that severely limited game play options of Sudoku on my 5800. One of the readers (Abreunin) pointed out that Sensible Sudoku trumps both these versions and I finally got the time to try this game on my 5800 and am glad that I did. Its an amazing application, incorporating every game play option of Sudoku that can possibly be implemented on touch screen device.
Installation
Sensible Sudoku is a paid game and can be bought for $14.99, either from the Ovi webstore or the official website of Ludimate. In the Ludimate website, there is only a version for s60 v3, but it works great on our 5800. I have infact downloaded my version from the Ludimate website and I can confirm that Sensible Sudoku for s60 v3 works perfectly on our 5800s. I was kinda sceptical initially, wondering whether a client designed for non-touch screen devices (s60 v3) would work on a touch screen phone, but I was more than convinced after playing this version on my 5800. If the developers have come up with a same version for both s60 v3 and s60 v5, its a job well done indeed. For not only is it touch optimized, it is also playable with devices with dedicated keyboards.
Features:

Game Statistics
Sensible Sudoku is a mix of features from both Sudoku Master and Sudoku Soft Touch when it comes to entering numbers. You need to first select the number you wish to enter and then select the square you wish to place the numeral, which is something like Sudoku Soft Touch but it has the looks and feel of Sudoku Master. There are several customisation options which make it much better than the other two versions of Sudoku discussed earlier. One of the best feature is that none of the difficulty levels require you to make a guess, which is a very important feature for logical sudoku solving. There are other Sudoku features which give you the feel of solving it on paper like using pencil marks for annotations and certain other Sudoku features like allowing/not allowing wrong entries, hints, all pencil entries and comprehensive Sudoku Statistics after each game, as seen in the screenshot to the right.
The option of logging your records to the online database at Ludimate, adds that extra zing to the puzzle. Gamers can now challenge other players over timing. Every Sudoku puzzle is assigned a specific code which can then be entered in the online database to allow other users to try and crack the same sudoku puzzle with a much better timing. This probably has to be the best feature of this game. In addition to the five difficulty settings ranging from very easy to extreme, gamers can now challenge each other on the same specific puzzle.
Some value added features include fourteen customizable skins, audio effects, options for checking and undo wrong entries and auto Save/Restore game which makes it ideal for playing while commuting to work or multitasking with some other chores. When you exit the game in the middle of the puzzle, it is auto saved and restored when the game is restarted later. The audio effects blend in well with game play and if you prefer to be silent, you can always mute the sound; especially when you are gaming during a boring presentation or lecture
Pros
- Great interface optimized for finger touch playing
- Several customization options
- Online Sudoku stastics entry making it very competitive for serious Sudoku gamers
Cons
- Sometimes the tap is wrongly interpreted and gamers are penalised for wrong numeral entry
- Not optimized for gameplay in landscape mode
Verdict
Sensible Sudoku is the best Sudoku client for your 5800 and its miles ahead of the competition. The several gameplay options along with online database make it the best Sudoku client ranging from amateurs to expert Sudoku gamers. I personally like the aesthetics as well as the gameplay options provided and since no guessing is involved, every puzzle can be logically solved. The game as a whole is a major relief from limited puzzles of Sudoku Master and inferior interface of Sudoku Soft Touch. Whether you are a serious Sudoku gamer or just an amateur, you will enjoy Sensible Sudoku. So go ahead and download this game and enjoy hours of Sudoku on your 5800s
