Sudoku, the game doesn't need any introduction, does it? It's one of the best logic based puzzles and has been a regular in print media for around three decades now. Sudoku was a big hit during our school days when we just couldnt wait to get our hands on the newspaper and attempt to outwit each other in being the first one to crack the day's sudoku puzzle. With the advent of mobile devices with large screens, Sudoko moved from the print media to the mobile devices and considering the fact that you dont need fancy animation or hi-fi hardware to simulate a sudoku game on any electronic device, its hard to believe that there are very limited number of sudoku games available on mobile platforms. Sudoku master is a flash lite based game for the symbian 5th edition mobile devices. It is one of the better ones in the market today and lets see what makes me say that.
Installation
The installation file for the version of sudoku master compatible on 5800 can be downloaded from this link. The installation is lightning fast and you can start playing straight away.

- Start screen
The timer starts straightaway and you can start looking for the right slot to start solving. The interface is pretty basic and there are no fancy options. The side panel shows the number of slots to be filled, the number of moves made and time taken. As when you are solving sudoku on paper you would like to check whether the same number is present in the same row or column; this is made easier here for when you click on a slot you wish to fill, the corresponding rows and columns are highlighted:

- I started with the bottom left slot
How do you enter the number? Just tap on the slot and this console comes up in the middle of the screen to chose the number of your choice:

- Number console
Now what would happen, if your entry is against the rules? It wont accept the entry and it will highlight which number is in conflict with the entry. The screenshot below should illustrate my point:

- I tried to enter 9 in the circled slot
One can play in portrait mode with equal ease. This is how the screen looks like in the portrait mode:

- Portrait mode
Looks like you have made a wrong entry somewhere and want to restart? Just tap on options and the following console turns up:

- Options button
I have covered pretty much every option in this game now. Its a pretty handy game to play during those boring times on the train or a bus and its good for your grey matter too. I also managed to finish a puzzle in my pursuit of reviewing this game.

- I won!
Now lets discuss some pros and cons of this game:
Pros:
- Well designed, no non-sense user interface
- Optimised for finger touch play
- Works fine in both landscape and portrait mode
Cons:
- Pretty basic options for game play
- Only three games in this version
Verdict:
The developers of Sudoku master have done a great job with the user interface and game play is as easy as on the paper. However they should have included more games for just three games is just not enough for serious sudoku players. Having said that sudoku masters is one of the well written games on Nokia 5800. I would definitely have this game on my 5800 till I get bored with the same three games.
