In my last post i had explained mapping your memory card as a network drive using a software called Web Drive. However, if you do not wish to use any additional software on your system, then you can very easily map your phone's external memory as a webfolder. You can create a webfolder in both Windows Vista as well as Windows XP.
I assume that you have installed the Nokia Web Server on your Nokia 5800 and it is up and running. This entire exercise of mapping drives and webfolders is just a way to learn and explore the capabilities of your Nokia 5800 and your personal computer. I have seen a number of times where people complain having their computer system getting hanged and all when they connect their phone via cable or bluetooth. Connecting over a Wi-Fi connection not only provides you with an easy way of sharing data, it also provides you high speed connectivity.
Let us map the Nokia 5800's memory card as a Web Folder
1. Go to Network Window in your Vista based computer system. Click START => Network
2. Click on Tools => Map Network Drive
3. In the Map Network Drive Window, click on the link "Connect to a website that you can use to store your documents and pictures".
4. Click NEXT on the Add Network Location Window.
5. Select "Choose a custom network location". Click NEXT.
6. Type the following url in the text box - "http://<phone's IP address>/WebDav". Click NEXT.
<phone's IP address> is your Nokia 5800's ip address on your network.
7. Type your username and password which you specified while configuring the Nokia Web Server on your phone. Click OK.
8. Give the webfolder a name. Click NEXT.
9. Click on FINISH.
10. You have successfully created the webfolder without using any external software.
Note: If you are not able to create a webfolder on your system, please install the patches provided by Microsoft for both Vista and Windows XP.
Install this first and Restart Vista

Hi,There is a Question?
part 6 , you mentioned somewhere “your Nokia 5800′s ip address on your network” !
I can see my IP address of my PC on my PC , But how can I find my 5800 IP Address??! (“http://your phone IP Address/WebDav”)
Thanks Dude, I really need to connect through WiFi !!!
Excuse for my bad English !
AnyBody there? Please answer ….
Hey Mojtaba, you are connecting via router right? If yes, then you can log into your router’s admin page and view the ip address of your phone but make sure you are connected to Wi-Fi when you log in to the admin page. I am using a router management software called Network Magic so i can view it right in that software.
Hey Anunay,
first thanks for ur reponding,
actually no !!! I thought I could easily connect my phone to my laptop by my laptop’s wifi !!!
Is’nt there anyway without router ? :-”
i think i can work on that.give me some time.i will figure it out and put a post.
its not woking , i have win7 .. it sais the folder u entered does not appear to be valid
although i am sure i did everything correctly
the Nokia webserver uses a protocol called Webdev ….Windows Vista and XP need to be updated with the patches before you could use the protocol as a webfolder, Win7 i have not tested just check if there is a patch available or try updating it…google for “WebDav + Windows 7″…..you may find some helpful articles…
@ Mojtaba : go to your Webserver app on yr 5800 and chose options > show information
It’s possible to mount Nokia 5800′s memory card as a webdav based drive on Linux too. I just tried it on Debian 5.0 Lenny and Gnome desktop and it works. You can use Gnome’s Nautilus filemanager to mount eg. WebDAV.
.
is there anyway to access the memory card
i mean the files there. i seem to only be able to access the webserver folder
Hi Jhay…you need to move all the other files that you have on your card to the
E:\data/webserver/htdocs
please note that do not uninstall webserver…move your files back from this location before uninstalling otherwise you will lose your files as well.
I played with this today and edited the httpd.conf file located in /data/Web server/conf
The phone was connected with usb when I did this.
In the section DocumentRoot I added this lines:
DocumentRoot “htdocs”
Alias /memcard E:/
Alias /memcards “E:/”
Order allow,deny
Allow from all
And in the section with all the webdav location I added this:
Dav On
Require group admin
AuthType Basic
AuthName “Protected Files”
AuthUserFile “conf/passwords.txt”
AuthGroupFile “conf/groups.txt”
After that I restarted the web server.
The result is that I can now access
http://myip/memcard in my webbrowser
and
use webdav on http://myip/memcards
There my be some security risk with this
Hmm. i thoguht so.. is that the only way?
i’m stuck on step 7. after entering my user name & password, the dialogue box just kept on refreshing. no error message. any ideas?
Have you tried installing the patches for Vista or XP. That may have a problem. Also, try checking the username and password. It is one you have setup on the nokia web server setup.
Same problem Here
Instaled the Patch for XP
keep getting the dialog box for user and password
The server is running
The user that should be entered is the ***.mymobilesite.net ?
My 5800 IP is found on the Router
Choosing Option->Show information gives the correct IP
Please advise
Thanks
thanx, man
works ok
