As per Wiki, “Video podcast (sometimes shortened to vodcast) is a term used for the online delivery of video on demand video clip content via Atom or RSS enclosures. The term is used to distinguish between podcasts which most commonly contain audio files and those referring to the distribution of video where the RSS feed is used as a non-linear TV channel to which consumers can subscribe using a PC, TV, set-top box, media center or mobile multimedia device.”
In our case, we are using Nokia 5800 as the mobile multimedia device and it refers to video podcasts as video feeds. Nokia 5800 allows the users to subscribe to video feeds available over the internet and download the free content on the phone and view them whenever they want. Once you subscribe to a video feed, Nokia 5800 lists all the video content available in that feed. You can choose the files you wish to view, once you choose them, Nokia 5800 starts downloading them to your phone so that you can view them. You cannot view them in real time like YouTube, you need to wait for the content to complete download and only then you can view them. However, Nokia 5800 allows you to schedule the download at your convenient time.
How is a video feed different from YouTube and useful?
Video Feeds from a source website lists all the latest content that the website has to offer. For example – If you are subscribed to Cnet.com then you can view all the latest videos available with Cnet.com and choose to view them. There are a huge number of websites that offer video feeds which you can easily Google and get the video feed URL.
Detailed instructions on setting up a video feed on Nokia 5800
1. Select the Video Center from the Media Bar dropdown from your home screen.
2. From the listed menu. Select “Video Feeds”
3. Select CANCEL because we are going to setup a user defined feed that is not provided automatically by the Nokia feeds server. If you select yes then you will get predefined feeds stored in Nokia’s server to which you can subscribe.

If you have a correct video feed created, you will notice a confirmation on the screen that the data connection was connected. You will also notice a “Updating…” at the top. This means that you had a correct video feed URL. Within seconds, you will see a list of all the available video content listed.

10. Click Ok for the notification and select the data connection to use. Select INTERNET and click OK. You have successfully setup your video feed.

In order for the schedule to take place, the application must be kept open, true?
Not really, it is a system application and not a 3rd party so you don’t need to have it open. Just specify the schedule and you are done.
