Nokia App: Banner

Your name in lights using Banner.

Your name in lights using Banner.

Are you one of those who wished to have their name in lights, in a marquee or on a billboard somewhere? Fantasizing about being on the New York Times Square rolling marquee for the entire city to see? Unless you’re really famous or controversial, you won’t be able to do that. But no one said that you couldn’t be your own star in your Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone. Presenting a FREE application called Banner.

What is the Banner application?

The Banner application is a great application that enables you to put whatever text running on a LED display scrolling from right to left. It’s just the one you see on CNN or on the street LED displays.

When you launch the application, you’ll notice the screen have these little bubble type of circles. This is where the text you will type will be displayed and looped. It will probably be doing that now.

At the upper left portion of the screen is the “I” that displays the “About Us” when tapped. At the upper right part is the “X” which is the universal symbol for “Exit the application.” In the middle, you will notice an icon resembling a keyboard. Curious? Try tapping it.

It will display a full QWERTY keyboard. Using your finger or the unit’s stylus, type the word you want. You can shift from small letters to capital letters by tapping on the “Up Arrow” button at the left side of the spacebar. If you want to add numbers, press the “?12” button. The keyboard will change from letters to numbers and special characters. Made a mistake in typing? Tap the backspace key (left arrow icon).

A great option of this application is that you can change the color of your display text. Choose from three colors namely green, blue and red. When you’re done, just tap the “Check” icon.

The application will automatically display the text you typed in the color you selected.

My take on the Banner Application

I love the concept of this application. The scrolling of the text is very smooth and you will not see any delay. Though the text may not be as big as you want it, it may serve some use. Just use your imagination.

We do see some areas we can improve in this application. First is the keyboard. Compared to the normal Nokia 5800 XpressMusic keyboard, this one is tiny. The keys are small. We suggest you use the stylus to properly choose the letters, numbers and characters you want. Also the application would have been better if there was a speed option to either increase or decrease the scrolling. This would be great since the screen isn’t as big or long as we would want it to be and can give someone a hard time to read it.

My verdict on the Banner Application

This is a fun application you can download on your Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone. It’s a great application to show to your friends and show them some cool features of your phone.

The Banner application can be downloaded for FREE HERE at the Ovi Store. Just register to access the site. You can also download this application straight to your Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone by installing the Ovi Store Application.
