Compute using Calc Touch.
There are tools that are basic and a necessity in any phone. Ideally, they should be part of the phone itself when you buy it. One such tool is the calculator. The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone has a default calculator installed in it. And it works pretty well. But we would like to give you a FREE alternative, which is from OffScreen Techonologies – Calc Touch.
What is Calc Touch?
Calc Touch is an alternative calculator for your Nokia 5800 phone. When you launch the application, you will be greeted with an apple-ish design. The buttons looks like Chiclets which the numbers in grey, the mathematical operations in brown, the memory buttons in bluish and the equals sign or total in orange.
The numbers are displayed at the top of the screen in big bold characters.
At the upper left corner, you will see a big “I” which will pop the “About Us” window. At the upper right corner, you will see a big “X” which obviously ends the application.
My take on Calc Touch
Calc Touch is a wonderful alternative to the built-in calculator of the Nokia 5800. Let’s compare the two and see the pros and cons of each.
Buttons:
The Calc Touch buttons are slightly similar in size with the default Nokia Calculator. But you have to give it to the designers of Calc Touch. The keys do look much better with the Chiclet color scheme.
Display:
The Calc Touch displays the digits bigger. Although we like the default calculator’s ability to show previously entered prices. I use this for my groceries which is handy in checking any items previously computed. But we do adore the gap between the numbers when it reaches the thousands mark (and so on). That will limit the visual confusion of the numbers displayed.
Features:
Aside from the basic mathematical processes such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, the Nokia calculator has very basic features such as percentage and square root. Though the Calc Touch doesn’t have the previously mentioned items, it does have memory features such as the memory add, memory recall and memory cancel. Plus, there is a nifty backspace button that deletes any digits entered.
Which one should we get?
Get both. Calc Touch is FREE to download anyway. Though we do suggest that you use the Calc Touch for basic computations. If you need a bit more specifics, use the default Nokia calculator because it can show the previously entered numbers.
The Calc Touch application can be downloaded for FREE HERE at the Ovi Store. Just register to access the site. You can download this application straight to your Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone by installing the Ovi Store Application.
