Since Halloween is almost here, we are giving you some Halloween-ish applications that you can use when you trick or treat with your Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone. Here’s another small yet nifty application from OffScreen Technologies. It’s an application called “Candle Touch”

What is Candle Touch?

Candle Touch is a small and lightweight application from OffScreen technologies.

When you launch the application, you will be greeted with a candle and a wick situated in a dark background. Then, the candle will start to light and fire will appear on the candle’s wick.

At the upper left corner, you will see a big “I” which will pop the “About Us” window. At the upper right corner, you will see a big “X” which obviously ends the application.

If you want to extinguish the fire, just touch the screen again and Candle Touch will put off the fire just for you.

To light the candle, all you need to do is flick the screen. The wick will spark and a flame will appear. You must flick the screen a bit hard because the candle will not light if u do not do this.

My Take on Candle Touch?

Candle Touch is a very simple application with a very simple premise – to make your Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone be a candle. I know you might think it’s a dumb idea. But remember, this is technology and these programmers are merely testing the boundaries and offerings of the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone.

I would say that the animation is quite convincing. It does look like a flickering candle. I would believe these are captured images from a real candle. But to make them animate seamless is short of amazing.

I like it that the candle even has smoke appearing when you extinguish the fire. It has a very nice effect.

Unfortunately, the flame does not follow gravity when you tilt it left or right. For example, you turn the candle upside down. In reality, the flame will always move straight up. In this case, it is straight down. Now this must be the limitation of the animation but it is something nice to have especially if you are saying that this is a candle.

My Verdict on the Candle Touch

Download this application. Carry it with you especially if you will use it for Halloween. It’s a great accessory when you go trick or treating.
