You have probably seen some cool novelty application in an iPhone and wished you had the same one in your Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone. We’ll here is one that we would like for you to try. Besides, this is another application. It comes from a company called Pico Brothers simply called the Pico Lighter.

What is the Pico Lighter?

The Pico Lighter is a novelty application, which turns your Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone into a digital lighter. Yes. You read it right.

You have a choice of three kinds of “lighters” or “heat sources”: a typical disposable lighter, a candle and a handheld sparky firework. Once you choose, the screen will how a portion of the “lighter.” For example, you chose the red disposable lighter. To activate your lighter, do what you would do a real lighter – flick it. Flick the screen using your finger and the flame will appear. When you move the Nokia 5800 to the side, the flame will always be upright.

Do you think the flame is too much? At the upper right side of the screen, you will see a “+” icon and a “-“ icon. When you tap on the “+” icon, it will increase the height or intensity of the flame. Obviously, tapping the “-“ icon will decrease the flame’s intensity.

Now, any curious person would like to touch the flame. I do not know why but this seems to be the effect of a flickering light source to the human mind. Good thing that you won’t get burned when you touch it. Instead, it will just zoom the screen to the flame and fill with it. Zoom out by touching the flame again.

If you want to extinguish the flame

If you choose the candle, the properties mentioned also apply. However, the “+” and “-“ icons are gone because you cannot control the intensity of light of a candle in read life.

Now for something really cool. How about a safe way to celebrate New Year’s eve or the 4^th of July without the dangers of fireworks. The Pico Lighter also has a sparky fireworks feature. Choose it in the menu and touch the screen to activate it. There you go. This is your very own digital fireworks.

My Take on the Pico Lighter

Again, another reason why the Nokia 5800 has so many possibilities for application. The Pico Brothers truly thought well about this product. This novelty application has a cool factor and can be used in fun ways such as in concerts, jokingly lighting a cigarette or celebrating New Year safely.

Other than the flame being a bit clunky in the animation, everything seems great.
