Shake this application off your phone.

I have written many reviews about different applications especially those of made by OffScreen Technologies. However, one of their recent applications has been quite disappointing. This is the Pocket Shaker Lite for the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic Phone.

How to use it?

The Pocket Shaker Lite is a simple application that hopes to simulate the features of a musical shaker in the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic Phone. When you launch the application, you are greeted with a blue shaker with purple trim and pink polka-dots. I think this shaker is like the ones used by Latin bands though it looked more like a baby’s rattle. At the upper left corner, you will see a big “I” which will pop the “About Us” window. At the upper right corner, you will see a big “X” which obviously ends the application.

The premise of the application is very simple: shake your Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone and it makes the sound of an “egg shaker”. If you don’t know how that sounds like, imagine beads inside an empty coconut shell. That’s the sound it makes. The application uses the built-in accelerometer in the phone.

What do I think about it?

Unfortunately, this application was poorly done. The shaking sound does not synchronize with the shaking of the phone. There seems to be a half-a-second to a second delay. Sometimes, even if you shake the phone rapidly, the shaking sound happens seldom.

This being said, then application has no use whatsoever. I understand that this may just be a novelty or a concept program. But it would have been done well as expected with the applications previously rolled out by OffScreen Technologies.

The Verdict

I do not recommend that you download this application. Out of curiousity, if you must download this application then nothing is lost simply because you do not spend a dime getting this application. It is for FREE. There are other applications for OffScreen that are much more useful other than this one.

There is always room for improvement. One would be the syncing of the movement with the shaking sound. Once that is settled, the application can have a feature where the user can choose the type of shaker he can play. I think there are several types of musical shakers with different pitches and textures of sounds.
