Ever wondered what it happened on a particular day on a certain year? With all the significant events that have happened in the past, is there a way for me to find out what they are quickly and efficiently? Now you can with OffScreen’s newest application simply called “Today Touch.”

What is Today Touch?

Today Touch is a simple, intuitive and lite application that you can install in your Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone. The Today application is your one-stop program that contains most of the significant events that have happened in the past years. Think of it as your personal trivia program.

When you launch the Today Touch application, you are immediately greeted with the “Events” that happened on this day. To read the facts, just scroll up or down using your finger. You can also flick the screen upwards or downwards to scroll between facts. The trivia are arranged via year in descending succession. It can go as far back as the availability of facts are concerned.

Above the screen, you will see the current day with the Day-Month-Date format (e.g. Tue- September 29^th). At the upper left corner, you will see a big “I” which will pop the “About Us” window. At the upper right corner, you will see a big “X” which ends the application.

The trivia has four categories namely Events, Births, Deaths and Holiday and Observances. Wikipedia provides the content for the trivia. I guess all the info is built inside the application. To move from one category to the next, simply swipe the top portion of the screen towards the left or the right.

In the category of “Events”, you will be able to read the most significant event that happened on that day. “Births” tell you if there is any significant person that was born on the day of choice (e.g. celebrity, world leader, famous person etc.) while “Deaths” tell you who died on the day of choice. “Holidays and Observances” will show you the different occasion that is celebrated based on the date. These events are international.

Question: Can you check out other dates? Answer: Yes you can. By tapping on the “Date” text found at the upper middle part of the screen, the application will show a calendar window. Choose the date you wish. If you want to go to an earlier month or later month, just tap the left or right side of the Month to go to which month respectively. Unfortunately, this is not obvious since there are no indicators such as arrows that intuitively tell you this is possible.

My Take on the Today Application

I love this application. To have so much information at the palm of my hand is incredible. It is a pocket trivia application that every one must have in their Nokia 5800 phone. You can literally spend hours reading all the facts that are available in this nifty application.

Added knowledge? It is possible. A conversation opener? Absolutely.

One of the things I did was check out what happened on my birthday. Who would have thought I had the same birthday with actors, politicians and athletes? It’s just a fun way of knowing facts that are relevant and timely.

Apparently, the historical data is retrieved from Wikipedia via internet. Perhaps there is an invisible process where the application does it without us knowing. Whatever it is, it is some worth appreciating.

My Verdict on the Today Touch

The Today Touch application for the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone is a must-have application. You can read this during your commute or just to find out something interesting today. It promotes reading and the thirst for knowledge. There is nothing like adding more things to talk about inside your brain. Download this application, folks! It’s a keeper.
